Brilliant initiative by the Office of the PSA to bring together innovators across sectors to address One Health challenges. India faces several such complex issues, ranging from zoonotic disease outbreaks (Nipah/ Ratfever/ H1N1) to antimicrobial resistance and climate-linked health risks. In most of these cases only collaborative innovation can truly make a difference. Sincerely looking forward to seeing some inspiring solutions emerge! 💡𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐌𝐈𝐇 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 Last week the Pandemic and Disaster Preparedness Center (PDPC) organised a scenario-based workshop on integrated scientific advice at the 14th European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health (#ECTMIH2025), which was hosted by the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg. During the workshop, participants were invited to practice integrated advice and decision-making. Key insights from the workshop included: 💪 Pandemic preparedness requires new forms of collaboration. At PDPC, we are developing ways to bring together experts from the biomedical and societal domains to provide integral advice for policymakers. 🗣️ During a pandemic, data and insights from different disciplines are needed. That’s why it’s crucial to incorporate several perspectives for policy advice. One of the participants shared: “𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘱 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘦 𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘧 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘪𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘥𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘤, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘦 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦.” As part of the recently launched UNITY project, PDPC will continue developing a new framework to better integrate scientific knowledge into policymaking. Another ally has joined our efforts to address #micronutrientdeficiencies! 🤝 The Institute for Nutrition and Health Research is the latest entity to join the #ZeroHiddenHungerEU consortium. 🪄 NHRESE is a private research institute located in Helsinki that focuses on nutrition, health and chronic disease prevention and follow-up. This team contributes to Zero Hidden Hunger EU by: ✅ offering nutrition knowledge, conducting nutrition-health surveys, and assessing micronutrient status. ✅ serving as one of the core analytical hubs in the project. The more actors eager to promote Europe's public health, the better! 🧬Science Wednesdays: Heterogeneity Heterogeneity is a way to describe when something is diverse or has different components to it. In the context of disease, it refers to when different people with that disease show different symptoms or have variable characteristics (e.g., risk factors, underlying mechanisms). ME/CFS is known to be a very heterogeneous population, with different people showing different symptoms at different severity levels. This heterogeneity could stem from a large number of things, including different triggers, sex differences, illness duration, location, and much more. Because of the heterogeneity of #MECFS, precision medicine is a really important avenue of research into finding effective treatments. At OMF’s Melbourne ME/CFS Collaboration, the team is exploring this approach in a project called Personalized Treatment Trials. 🔗 Read more about this project: https://ow.ly/MisK50XggU5.
