At the #VMA25 International Trade Symposium, CEO Mark George joined Team NS and industry leaders in Norfolk, Virginia, to share insights on the historic merger between Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific Railroad. Hosted by the Virginia Maritime Association, the event brought together cargo owners, shippers, and logistics professionals. Mark’s keynote, “Building America’s First Transcontinental Railroad,” highlighted how this merger—if approved—will reshape the U.S. supply chain, creating a unified network spanning 50,000 route miles across 43 states and linking 100+ ports. For Virginia, where our legacy runs deep, this transformation could position the Commonwealth as a strategic hub in a reimagined rail network connecting the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. Thank you to the VMA for convening industry leaders shaping the future of trade at this year’s conference. Team NS is proud to be part of the conversation driving innovation in American logistics! One of the most remarkable turnarounds in recent corporate history. In 2021, Philippine Airlines faced one of its darkest chapters — grounded operations, heavy debt, and a global industry in crisis. Instead of waiting for conditions to improve, PAL made a decisive move: a Chapter 11 restructuring in New York, led by Alvarez & Marsal, with legal guidance from Latham & Watkins, Norton Rose Fulbright, and SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan. The plan was pre-negotiated and completed in just four months — an extraordinary pace for a major airline. Over $2 billion in liabilities were restructured, the fleet was reduced by 25%, and $505 million in fresh capital was secured from the Lucio Tan Group. By early 2023, PAL had returned to profitability — two years ahead of forecast. And in 2025, the conversation isn’t about survival anymore… it’s about growth and fleet expansion. The only Asian carrier to complete and exit a full U.S. Chapter 11 process during the pandemic — and emerge stronger, more disciplined, and more focused. This is a textbook example of strategic leadership under pressure. Because real resilience isn’t about avoiding turbulence — it’s about navigating through it with clarity and conviction. #Leadership #Strategy #BusinessTurnaround #Restructuring #Aviation #CorporateRecovery #PhilippineAirlines #Execution #Transformation #Resilience #ProudFilipino To view or add a comment, sign in
