Sometimes, building a dashboard with Power BI feels almost effortless. I just connect the data, pick a chart, tweak the visuals and it’s done. Templates, visuals, and interactions are ready to go and honestly, it’s a joy to use. But then there are projects that get a bit more complex: Dynamic layouts that change with user input. Statistical modeling directly inside the dashboard. Or multi-layer geospatial maps with interactive filters. I know Power BI can handle many of these challenges, and maybe I just haven’t explored all the advanced capabilities yet. But in moments like that, R Shiny feels like the tool that fits my thinking process better. It’s not as fast to build. It’s not as visually polished out of the box. But it gives something unique, complete control over logic, interactivity, and data flow. So when I only need an interactive dashboard without complex data processing, I happily open Power BI. For complex or experimental ones, I reach for R Shiny. “R Shiny gives you power and flexibility — if you’re ready to code.” #RShiny #PowerBI #DataScience #Dashboard #RLanguage #DataAnalytics #MachineLearning #DataVisualization

The hardest part of building successful reports in Power BI isn’t the technical work- it’s getting people to change how they’ve always done things. You can create the best data model, optimize every DAX measure, and design a dashboard that’s a UX showoff … but if the people are not ready, the report will fail. A few things that you can do (as a Power BI Dev) to drive behavioral transformation alongside data transformation: ➡️ Start with a usecase that is a „clear win“ compared to the current solution. ➡️ Don‘t start with a data dream that is impossible to deliver on relatively quickly. ➡️ Strategically involve the right people and make them part of the process. ➡️ Show up when the first excitement is gone: Keep iterating; keep improving, keep showing the value. Do not just drop a report and never look back at it. If you don’t care, should they? #powerbi #report #design #analytics #dashboard

𝐈 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈'𝐦 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭. Most dashboards I see are packed with charts and numbers, but managers still can't answer the question: "𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘰 𝘐 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘤𝘵 𝘰𝘯 𝘛𝘖𝘋𝘈𝘠?" So, I experimented with HTML-based KPI cards in Power BI. The goal wasn't just to make things look pretty—it was to surface the insights that actually matter. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭: → Interactive flip cards showing Profit, Sales, and YoY trends with instant color signals → A Manager Alert Panel that flags critical issues: high-value customers at risk, declining regions, low inventory, growing segments → Everything actionable in under 10 seconds 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬: Started with card templates from uiverse.io, then customized the HTML and wired-up DAX measures. Lots of YouTube tutorials, lots of trial and error, and honestly, a few moments of "why isn't this working?!" But that's the fun part—pushing Power BI beyond its standard visuals to create something that actually changes how decisions get made. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝: Raw data doesn't drive action. Context does. A number without priority is just noise. The challenge in analytics isn't gathering data—it's making it impossible to miss what matters. For anyone building dashboards: 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺? I'm curious what problems you're trying to solve. #PowerBI #DataVisualization #DashboardDesign #BusinessIntelligence #EcommerceAnalytics

🚀 The Power BI Decision That Stumps Even Pros… If you're building Power BI reports, you've faced THIS question—guaranteed: 👉 "Wait… should I use a slicer or a filter here?" 😅 It's the classic crossroads for every data analyst. So let's settle it once and for all: --- 🔹 Filter = The Hidden Boss - Works quietly in the background, controlling what data gets displayed—on a visual, a page, or the whole report. - Want your report to always show data for "India Only"? ✅ Use a Filter! 🔹 Slicer = User's Secret Weapon - Sits on your canvas, inviting users to interact and explore. - Makes dashboards come alive and lets users pick what matters—month, category, city, you name it! ✅ Use a Slicer! --- 💡 Quick Recap: 🎛️ Filter → Best for report designers 🧠 Slicer → Best for end users 🔥 Pro Tip: Combine both for superhero dashboards! Set your base context with filters, and let slicers put the power in users' hands. --- 👀 Community Challenge: What about YOU—do you lean on slicers, or do filters rescue your analysis? Drop your best tips, fails, or "aha!" moments below. Let's crowdsource the ultimate DAX wisdom! #PowerBI #DAX #DataAnalytics #DataVisualization #PowerBITips #BusinessIntelligence #DataCommunity

🔵 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗼𝘁𝘀: 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 Most dashboards show numbers. But what if your visuals could speak? That’s the idea behind my latest Power BI experiment — Action Dots. Tiny emojis that carry massive meaning. 🟢 Above Quarterly Avg 🟡 Near Quarterly Avg 🔴 Below Quarterly Avg ⚠️ Lowest in Quarter Each dot tells a story your table never could — instantly showing where things are going right, wrong, or way off-track. Here’s what this approach does: 💡 Adds context awareness inside your Matrix — no need for extra charts 💬 Builds a visual language your stakeholders instantly understand 📊 Embeds intelligence directly into the KPI 🎯 Works seamlessly with DAX and standard visuals — no custom visuals needed And yes — I even built an HTML-based tooltip that reacts dynamically, showing diff, % difference, and performance direction — all while keeping the ⚠️ icon locked for the lowest performer every quarter. If you love creating dashboards that think, not just display, this one’s for you. 👉 Read the full story and download the PBIX here: https://lnkd.in/dz5T9M_n Huge thanks to Michel van Schaik for the inspiration — your creativity continues to push the boundaries of what Power BI can do! 🙌 #PowerBI #DataStorytelling #DataVisualization #DAX #Analytics #BusinessIntelligence #PowerBIDesign
