#NewStudy 🔍 TEPSA recently coordinated the publication of the study "EU strategy to face narratives against democracy – with a focus on the external dimension", authored by Richard Youngs (Carnegie Europe) and Elene Panchulidze (European Partnership for Democracy (EPD)). The study was requested by the European Parliament's DROI committee and it provides recommendations on fighting the autocratic wave in Europe. As the Western Balkans move through a decisive phase of the #greentransition, this paper explores how Albania’s political commitments to climate action, environmental protection, and sustainable development align with its budgetary structure. Through an economic and fiscal analysis of national and local budget documents, the study highlights that despite efforts to align with EU policies, the reflection of green priorities in Albania’s budget remains limited. The fourth analytical paper in the #BATCivilSociety series is now available! Authored by Lorena Zajmi, the paper provides an in-depth analysis of how local government units (LGUs) in Albania address budget accountability challenges. It assesses the role of key oversight bodies such as the State Supreme Audit Institution, the Commissioner for the Right to Information, the High Inspectorate for the Declaration and Audit of Assets and Conflicts of Interest (HIDAACI), and internal audit units in ensuring transparency and integrity. Muragala l CPPP co-authored a study commissioned by the French Institute of International Relations (Ifri) on “Sri Lanka’s NPP Government – From System Change to Structural Compliance”. The study examines the key political, economic and foreign policy dimensions of the NPP government, against the backdrop of the 2022 national economic crisis. The Institute for Democracy and Mediation (IDM) has published "A Practical Guide to Public Consultations" - designed to help citizens, civil society organizations, and interest groups better understand and engage in public consultation processes in Albania. The guideline explains key steps, rights, and responsibilities within public consultations, offering practical advice to strengthen transparency and meaningful participation in policymaking.
