It doesn’t happen every day that someone you know co-authored a paper with a #nobelprize winner, and it’s even rarer when that person is your father. This morning I discovered that Professor Emeritus John Clarke, one of the three physicists awarded this year’s Nobel Prize in Physics, is the same person my dad collaborated with at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory over 40 years ago, when the experiments that led to today’s recognition were taking shape. The name John Clarke — and the word #superconductivity — were part of my childhood vocabulary. Knowing that my father played even a small role in advancing a field that has now earned the highest scientific honor fills me with pride. Wherever you are, well done, Dad. (Attached is one of the papers published on APL from that time.) Romolo Savo
Salvatore, your father — Prof. Bonaventura Savo — was my professor when I was a physics student at the University. He had a rare gift for making complex ideas feel simple and beautiful, and for reminding us that curiosity and humanity belong together in science. I will never forget his clear teaching, his kindness, and his gentle smile! 😍
Wow! 👏 👍
Salvatore Savo, PhD awesome !
Sal, great to hear about your dad. Hope all is well.
👏👏👏
Semplicemente fantastico! ❤️

4wHi Salvatore, as you might know, your father was one of the few physics professors that inspired me in pursuing my career as a physicist. I still have fond memories of the evenings passed in the lab during his experiments classes. Even if we were always making him stay late, he never complained, even while knowing that he had to go all the way back to Amalfi from Fisciano. He actually appreciated the dedication. I had many long and late chats, both about physics and about academia with him. He was always extremely intellectually honest, even when it meant to expose the dark sides of this world. For this and many other reasons I always held him in great regards (even when he didn't feel comfortable to give me the "lode" to one of his exams 😀).
