Back in 2010, a recruiter took me out to lunch. Not to place me, but to place others at my firm. Over lunch, I mentioned I was moving to Chicago soon. He paused and asked me something I’ll never forget: “Are you running away from something, or running toward something? Because if you’re running away, your problems will follow you.” At the time, I brushed it off. But he was right. I left Boston, and my problems came right along, just louder and under a brighter spotlight. Funny enough, I ended up back in Boston a year later. No regrets, I learned a huge lesson through that experience, one that brought me a little closer to feeling truly settled. Fifteen years later, I finally understand what he meant. Whatever you’re searching for isn’t “out there.” It’s already within you. You just need stillness, time, and grace to find it. So if you’re standing at the edge of a big change, take a breath. Sit with it. Ask yourself: What are you really running toward… and what might happen if you simply stopped running?
A poignant question indeed. Thanks for sharing
WOW. Love it

1wDo you think there is something reinvigorating about moving somewhere new that can be beneficial? I agree that your problems follow you wherever you go but I think changing environments can increase motivation and sense of aliveness.
