🗓️ 🤝🏼 In October 2025, representatives from the SNF Center for Precision Psychiatry and Mental Health at Columbia University, joined by colleagues from SNF, had their first in-person visit to the Medical School at DUTH, marking the start of the process of launching an innovative postgraduate program of studies in Greece, Precision Medicine in the Development of Mental Health. At the same time, members of the ΝΥP/Columbia team held a series of meetings with SNF representatives and a Greek government working group to plan the next steps in the development of a pediatric cardiac program for the forthcoming SNF University Pediatric Hospital of Thessaloniki. SNF is proud to support global collaborations that translate expertise into impact. Learn more at https://b.snf.org/4o3E9q8

We're excited to be collaborating with Japan's National Centre for Neurology and Psychiatry (NCNP) to share and apply evidence-based practice on vocational support for young people with mental ill-health. Funded by an Australia-Japan Foundation grant, this collaboration aims to advance growth and innovation in the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) field. "Our Youth IPS Centre of Excellence has shown what's possible when evidence-based support is tailored to young people's needs," said Gina Chinnery (pictured), Orygen's Director of Employment & Education Partnerships. "This partnership is a chance to share that knowledge, learn from Japan's innovations, and help more young people around the world build meaningful futures." “What makes this study different? - Identifying biological markers that correlate with psychiatric outcomes - Tracking client recovery during treatment and after discharge - Demonstrating how immersive metabolic psychiatry can create lasting mental and physical health gains”
Big News from Accord! We’re proud to announce the launch of a landmark study with McLean Hospital that could redefine mental health treatment at its metabolic roots. Thanks to over $600,000 in research funding from the Baszucki Group, this 3-year study will be the first comprehensive investigation into the metabolic biomarkers that can guide psychiatric care. What makes this study different? - Identifying biological markers that correlate with psychiatric outcomes - Tracking client recovery during treatment and after discharge - Demonstrating how immersive metabolic psychiatry can create lasting mental and physical health gains “This is about more than demonstrating symptom reduction; it’s about creating a roadmap for clinicians of how to best deliver metabolic psychiatry.” — Dr. Matthew Bernstein, CEO of Accord As the first residential program devoted to metabolic psychiatry, Accord is proud to provide care that’s both transformative in the moment and groundbreaking for the future of the field. Back from my first time at #ECNP2025 in Amsterdam 🧠 What stood out most is that psychiatry is moving towards precision medicine. 📈 Lot of conferences focused on bio & digital markers bringing objective, data-driven measures to mental health care. 📊 I had the chance to connect with many clinicians and researchers interested in how remote patient monitoring can bring longitudinal data to improve continuity of care and patient outcomes. A highlight was discussing how Resilience Psychiatry (Edra) could help collect real-world data to better understand and personalize maintenance rTMS treatments.

Thrilled to share our new JAMA Psychiatry randomized trial on wearable heart rate variability biofeedback (HRVB) for substance use disorder. We enrolled 120 adults in early recovery across the U.S., randomized participants to HRVB plus usual care versus usual care alone, and tracked the proportion of alcohol/other drug use days via ecological momentary assessment. The HRVB group showed a 64% lower proportion of use days compared with control. HRVB also attenuated the craving → substance use pathway: for every 1-unit increase in craving, the odds of same day substance use were 16% lower in the HRVB group relative to control. Together, these findings point to a scalable, fully remote behavioral tool that can meaningfully reduce use days and weaken the impact of craving. Breakthrough study from Dr. David Eddie at Mass General showing Lief was able to drop substance use days 64% versus treatment-as-usual controls. Exciting validation of real-time HRV biofeedback to interrupt maladaptive cognitive and behavioral loops 🧠 Lief Therapeutics - the wearable for mental health

The United States faces a predicted shortage of 36,500 physicians by 2036, and a new report shows how #PhysicianAttrition is accelerating nationwide. Those practicing in psychiatry, #PrimaryCare, and OB-GYN specialties are at greater risk for attrition than those in hospital-based specialties. Read the full study, which describes more factors associated with increased physician attrition, here: https://bit.ly/4o3CGjg

Could chronic insomnia be 'silently' increasing dementia risk? Insomnia isn’t just about restless nights. A new Mayo Clinic study (Carvalho et al., 2025) links it to faster cognitive decline and a higher risk of impairment in older adults. Here’s what clinicians need to know about spotting and managing this risk in daily practice. 👇🧵 Want to receive the latest psychiatry research and clinical insights without endless scrolling? Few have done more to shape Europe’s modern psychedelic research landscape than Professor Robert Schoevers, a psychiatrist and epidemiologist who is, among other things, Head of the Department of Psychiatry at University Medical Center Groningen and principal investigator of PsyPal, a large, EU-funded study of psilocybin in patients with palliative care needs. As a lead architect of that project to securing support for a major EU-backed consortia, Schoevers has become a central figure in efforts to ground psychedelic research in rigorous, multidisciplinary frameworks. Chatting with me for Psychedelic Alpha's latest interview, Schoevers discusses the growing momentum for public funding for psychedelic research across the bloc. He reflects on the Netherlands’ relatively pragmatic approach to drugs and other issues that are more taboo elsewhere, his “hopeful skepticism” around psychedelic therapies, and why Europe must pursue its own models of care and protocols rather than waiting for the U.S. to set the agenda. Words Matter. Medical specialties are defined by language — accuracy and specificity matter. “Appears sedated” means something entirely different to an outpatient psychiatrist than it does to an ICU internist. In psychiatry, our words are our instruments. Descriptive precision provides diagnostic clarity. Terms like flat, blunted, or numb carry nuanced meaning unique to our field. Let’s continue to remind and educate our colleagues about the importance of language — both written and spoken. Intentionally chosen words can illuminate illness, foster understanding, and inspire hope. Or, when used carelessly, they can create confusion, frustration, and deepen isolation. Our words matter — let’s use them to heal.

❤️Early diagnosis of bipolar disorder is more than a goal — it’s a lifeline. 🔎For clinicians, distinguishing between unipolar and bipolar depression is one of psychiatry’s greatest challenges. The symptoms can overlap, yet the right diagnosis determines the right treatment. Every year of diagnostic delay can mean years of ineffective medication, worsening symptoms, and missed opportunities for recovery. 🤝Through the EDIT-B consortium, supported by EIT Health, Europe’s leading researchers and clinicians are working together to shorten this delay — and redefine how mental health conditions are diagnosed. 👀Stay tuned to discover more in the run up to #WorldMentalHealthDay on Friday... 👋Meet the EDIT-B consortium collaborating across borders on this EIT Health innovation project: ALCEDIAG ALCEN Region Hovedstaden Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Deu Fundació de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu SYNLAB Italia Hospital Clínic de Barcelona ProductLife Group GHU Paris psychiatrie & neurosciences Fundació Clínic per a la Recerca Biomèdica #MentalHealthAwareness #HealthcareInnovation #PrecisionPsychiatry #CrossBorderCollaboration
