On 11th September, the Town Planning and Regulation Focus Group of the CTBUH UK Chapter hosted a roundtable at Charles Russell Speechlys to discuss the Building Safety Act (BSA) and its impact on the future of development. From project delays and compliance challenges to investment uncertainty and the need for regulatory change, the session brought together developers, architects, engineers, lawyers, and investors to unpack the realities of building safely in a post-Grenfell landscape. Key takeaways:  • Gateway application related delays are stalling projects and eroding confidence. • Unintended consequences of the BSA legislation are paralysing some development activity. • Together, these effects are seriously impacting new build delivery numbers across London specifically and the UK more broadly, at precisely the time the Government is wanting to ramp up delivery. • Developers and designers face very material remediation costs and liability risks. This is a cross-industry challenge and it’s clear that collaboration, advocacy, and reform are essential to building a safer, more resilient future. Let’s keep the conversation going. If you’re working in the built environment, we’d love to hear your thoughts. Thank you to Construction Partner David Savage for chairing the session, Real Estate Disputes Partner James Souter for hosting, and Gita Maruthayanar for helping organise. #BuildingSafety #CTBUH #Development #Architecture #Construction #Regulation #Grenfell #BSA #UrbanDevelopment #Collaboration Andy Campbell Charles Seifert Laurence Quail Steven Brown Yin Hui Chung Paul Jones Lewis Edward Mottram
