MapTiler’s evolution from its #Klokantech origins to a global #mapping powerhouse is remarkable. Its first company event called “MapTiler Connect”, showed why: Blending technical rigor with community spirit, it highlighted how #opensource ideals, design, and cutting-edge #3D innovation can coexist in modern #cartography. — Stephan Heuel #GIS #geospatial #SwissGIS
MapTiler is actually a wonderful success story in the field of open source and open data in Switzerland. I wish MapTiler many more successes! Often, large, but also small companies and start-ups, give little or nothing back to open source. This is not the case with MapTiler: MapTiler's commitment to open source is very high and commendable! However, this is less true in the field of open data. What I would like to see from all companies that use OpenStreetMap (OSM) is that they give back more to OSM and open data in general (let me talk later on AI misuse prevention for Open Data). Here is a 5-point “Give back” plan: - Become a (corporate) member of OSMF and SOSM. - Donate to OSMF. - Roll out the “Improve the map...” link (to OSM.org) on all maps and examples. - Publish a “Fixes first in OSM upstream” policy. - Publish an annual “OSM Impact Report” with KPIs.
Stephan Heuel danke für den Beitrag!
I’m particularly overwhelmed (really) by geosplats.org : this is pictometry on steroids
