Proudly sharing exciting news: world’s first fossil-free dam gate! ✨ We have signed an agreement with Vattenfall to deliver 120 tonnes of fossil-free steel for what will become the world’s first and largest dam gate manufactured with near-zero fossil carbon dioxide emissions in the ironmaking process. “This is an important step in our shared commitment to reducing carbon emissions. With forward-thinking partners like Vattenfall, we continue to lead the transformation of the steel industry. Our successful collaboration through HYBRIT now demonstrates what we can achieve to reduce the climate footprint across the entire value chain,” says Thomas Hörnfeldt, Vice President Sustainability at SSAB. The steel structure, measuring 21 meters wide and 11 meters high, will serve as a tangible example of how SSAB’s fossil-free steel can be used in large-scale infrastructure projects. The steel is a pilot delivery based on fossil-free sponge iron — a groundbreaking technology developed jointly by SSAB, Vattenfall and LKAB through the HYBRIT initiative. 🌱 Read more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dVt3bqNG #FossilFreeSteel #Collaboration #DamGate
