New research projects a #malaria comeback could see 750,000 more children lose their lives and cost the next African generation up to $19.7 billion in lost future earnings by 2030. But if leaders step up and funding gets back on track, the report predicts a boost in future earnings and millions of lives saved by 2030. It’s time to invest in The Global Fund. A malaria resurgence would threaten lives and crush economies. The Global Fund partnership has saved 70 million lives from #AIDS, #TB and #malaria since 2002. It has also played an integral role in putting the life-saving malaria medicines MMV has supported into the hands of patients in endemic countries. But as a new African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA), Malaria No More UK and Zero Malaria report warns, unless The Global Fund meets its 8th Replenishment target, the world risks the biggest malaria resurgence on record – costing lives, holding back African economies and disrupting global trade. Extreme weather events, rising drug and insecticide resistance, humanitarian crises and global insecurity are creating a perfect storm for malaria. Sustained investment in innovation and access can help us weather the storm and deliver the big push we need to get the elimination agenda back on track. 🦟 Malaria remains one of Africa’s most pressing health challenges, claiming hundreds of thousands of lives every year. This urgent issue was in focus at the recent 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9). We spoke with Dr Simon Onsongo from Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu, Kenya, who shared why innovative technology and accurate diagnostics, like the Sysmex XN-31, are essential in the fight against malaria. At Sysmex, we believe every accurate diagnosis can lead clinicians to an effective treatment, prevent complications and reduce mortality. Together we can work towards eradicating malaria. NEW REPORT SERVES AS A WARNING FOR GLOBAL LEADERS 📢 https://lnkd.in/etDiAeQj The world risks the biggest malaria resurgence on record UNLESS The Global Fund to Fight #AIDS, #tuberculosis and #malaria meets its 8th Replenishment target ‼️This will cost lives, hold back African economies, and disrupt trade globally 🌎 If malaria prevention collapses: ❌ Africa could lose $83 billion in GDP by 2030. If we stay on track to ending malaria it could boost economies by $231 billion. ❌ School age children could face a $19.7 billion loss in their future earnings, through missed school, workdays and reduced lifetime earnings. ❌ It will put $3.4 billion in global trade with G7 countries at risk, compared with a potential $10.3 billion boost if we stay on track to end malaria. This isn't just a health investment; it fuels growth, protects trade, and secures a stronger, safer and more prosperous world for ALL. #globalhealth #EndTB #ForeignAid #Budget2025 #cdnpoli Mark Carney Anita Indira Anand Randeep Sarai Yasir Naqvi 🇨🇦 Stop TB Canada African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) Malaria No More UK Malaria No More To view or add a comment, sign in

A Milestone in Africa’s Health Innovation 🇺🇬 Uganda is among the first countries to roll out Coartem Baby (Riamet Baby) — the world’s first malaria drug specifically designed for infants and young children under 5kg. Developed by Novartis and the Medicines for Malaria Venture, this artemisinin-based combination therapy is set to save countless lives by providing a safe, accurately dosed, and palatable treatment for one of the most vulnerable age groups. This marks a pivotal step toward eradicating infant malaria deaths across Africa. 🌍 https://lnkd.in/eKWSKjU #Uganda #HealthInnovation #Malaria #AfricaHealth #Novartis #ChildHealth #AfricaGlobalNews To view or add a comment, sign in
