You are not the user! It sounds simple, but it’s one of the hardest truths in UX. The False-Consensus Effect describes our tendency to assume that others think and behave like we do. In product development, this can quickly become a trap: We design, decide, and prioritize based on our own experience, not the user’s. 💬 “Everyone will understand this.” 💬 “It’s obvious where to click.” 💬 “No one will get confused here.” Sound familiar? But users don’t live in your sprint cycles. They haven’t seen your prototypes ten times. They approach your product with their own goals, expectations, and frustrations.
