Today is #WorldStatisticsDay, a time to reflect on the importance of data in everyday life — from forecasting the weather to choosing where to live. Since 1972, our Committee on National Statistics (CNSTAT) has been supporting the federal statistical system to produce quality statistics and data for everyone. Learn what makes federal statistics trustworthy from a recent CNSTAT resource: https://ow.ly/pIfv50Xfb9K #StatisticsDay #Statistics #Data

Messy data with outliers or skewed values can make standard analysis misleading or slow. Optimization-based approaches let us build statistical models that capture the full range of outcomes, not just averages, turning complex problems into actionable insights. At INFORMS, our teammate Cezareo Rodriguez be presenting “Penalized Quantile Regression from an Optimization Perspective.” He will show how linear and mixed-integer programming, parallel computation, and primal-dual strategies can create robust models that scale to real-world datasets. These kinds of models are used everywhere from finance to estimate extreme losses, in healthcare to predict high-cost patient outcomes, and in supply chains to plan for worst-case demand scenarios. Excited to talk statistics and optimization at INFORMS this fall!

Autocorrelation fctor ( ACF) is a well establihed statistical method which compares time series data of undelying vs its lag data. It provides excellent tool to analyze market phase. A positive ACF indicate trending day ahead while negative ACF suggests choppy days. Mean reversion strategies are best suited for choppy market. AI x Microbiome: Where Data Begins to Heal The convergence of AI and microbiome science is fast becoming one of the most exciting frontiers in healthcare, and ENBIOSIS Biotechnology is a company worth watching. Their proprietary 𝘥𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘸𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺 is being used to design disease-specific nutraceuticals that go beyond symptom management, targeting the root mechanisms of disease through the gut. Halfway through their clinical study on 𝗱𝗿𝘆 𝗲𝘆𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲, early results are already showing remarkable trends, overall improvement climbing toward 100 %, full recovery rates rising, and “no-change” outcomes in decline. That matters because dry eye isn’t a condition traditionally linked to gut health. If modulating the microbiome can influence recovery here, it hints at a far wider horizon - neurological, autoimmune, skin, even metabolic disorders. It’s early days, but the implications are profound. What if AI could translate our microbial language into medicine?
Week 6 Results The data speaks for itself. 95 % Overall Improvement 47.4 % Full Recovery

Testing a hypothesis—which is necessary if you are to argue “the data tell us we should”—required statistics… pie graphs or bar graphs just won’t do.

On another platform, Jed Kolko asked, “So how is everyone feeling about private sector data subbing in for official statistics?” And my answer is: It’s much better to have the private sector data than not, but there’s a big knowledge gap that’s getting bigger and going mostly unfilled.
