AI in production: 3 real pain points We use AI in our pipeline when it helps. Here is where it still hurts. 1) Consistency Models drift across shots. Character faces, proportions and outfit details shift. How we handle it: character bible, pose library, face fixing, fixed seeds, curated refs, human QC on every pass. 2) Resolution and bit depth Great for lookdev, soft for finals. How we handle it: rebuild key frames in 3D, grade input frames before generation, render native res, comp with traditional tools. 3) Transparency (alpha and mattes) Many AI outputs are flattened. No clean alpha slows compositing. How we handle it: two paths. We generate on green and key for a reliable alpha. Or we run a local pipeline with more options like depth path, alpha etc. Real client conversations we hear: • “Ah, it is AI, so it is cheap.” Reality: cost shifts to QA and finishing. It does not disappear. • “You cannot do that quickly in AI.” Some tasks are faster, others are slower. We choose the right tool per task. • “Is there an AI that can solve that?” Tools help. Taste, constraints and craft still decide. • “If it is AI, I can do it myself, no?” You can get a draft. Brand-safe, scalable, art direction still need a pipeline. What we wish AI tools did next • Deterministic style locking across shots and characters • True native high resolution without artifacts • Native RGBA output with clean alpha and consistent mattes • Editable layers with depth, mattes and normals • Clear, standardised licensing and provenance • Reliable temporal stability for video What do you want from AI tools next? #AIProduction #MotionDesign #CharacterConsistency #Compositing #CGI #relativeberlin
YEP!!
Great work! Thank you for sharing your process!
Really interesting breakdown. Thank you so much for sharing the process behind it!
This looks stunning 🤩 I would agree with you on this. Creating something with AI does lower the production costs and cuts down recurring efforts however in order to achieve excellence we then need humans at every review stage and invest more in terms of efforts and time in polishing and refining the final outputs. It does look easy but it's not. It does look cheap but it's not.
Great breakdown, thanks!
It looks beautiful
