Mobility beneath, life above: The Missing Dimension of Bogotá’s Green Corridor Bogotá’s Corredor Verde confuses urban design with mobility strategy. Global cities solved this decades ago: Madrid buried the M-30, Seoul tunneled traffic under Cheonggyecheon, Boston built the Big Dig. They didn’t erase movement — they reorganized it. Bogotá is trying to green the Séptima on the surface, forcing cars, buses, cyclists, and pedestrians into the same 25-meter corridor. The result isn’t sustainability — it’s friction. Carrera Séptima is not a boulevard; it’s the city’s structural spine and it demands an underground metro. Without it, the corridor will underperform economically and environmentally. True green infrastructure requires spatial layering: mobility beneath, life above. Bogotá must invest once, strategically, to unlock flow, value, and air quality — not keep paying for half-solutions that beautify congestion. It’s time Bogotá plans at the depth it deserves.

🛵🌍 68% of trips in cities in emerging economies rely on informal transportation modes. How can we integrate these informal modes into sustainable urban mobility? On Tuesday (10/28), we’ll continue our fall speaker series on #SustainableTransportation with a talk by Andrea San Gil León (she/her), Executive Director of Global Network for Popular Transportation at the Shared-Use Mobility Center. Andrea will discuss the critical role that informal #transportation modes like minibus taxis, tuk tuks, and bike taxis play in cities across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. She’ll present recent data showing that these modes contribute up to 40% of transportation emissions in certain cities, and explore opportunities for #decarbonization and reducing global transportation emissions. 🗓️ Tuesday, Oct 28 | 12:00–1:00 PM ET 🎟️ Free & open to the public 🔗 Register here: yse.to/hixonoct28 Fundación Centro Para la Sostenibilidad Urbana #Mobility #UrbanSustainability #Sustainability #Yale #YSE

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄 As urban populations continue to grow, cities are rethinking the way people and goods move. The future of transport is no longer just about getting from point A to point B — it’s about creating 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 that improve quality of life while protecting our planet. At Macq, we support cities in this transition with solutions like 𝗔𝗡𝗣𝗥, 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹, 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗭𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. These tools help reduce congestion, lower emissions, improve road safety, and prioritize public transport, cyclists, and pedestrians. Introducing more green space into dense urban areas is a powerful way to create healthier, more sustainable, and more enjoyable cities. But how do you green areas that are grey, full of traffic, short on space – and where change often meets resistance? Our Liveable Cities team is tackling exactly that challenge through GreenDense – an initiative piloting an innovative green infrastructure “mosaic” approach, where Bax supports six cities to: 🌱 Maximise limited space and strengthen green connectivity by integrating multiple small-scale green infrastructures into dense urban environments. From turning a disused industrial road in Brest Métropole into a green corridor for pedestrians and cyclists to planting a tile garden on a residential street in Stad Mechelen. ✅ Develop and implement urban greening solutions in collaboration with local communities that reflect each city’s unique cultural and environmental context. These small but significant interventions also advance broader policy goals – from public health and active mobility to youth engagement. 🤝 Foster transnational collaboration by connecting cities facing similar challenges across Europe with each other and with expert organisations. Last month, this collaboration came to life in Brest, where partners shared experiences, insights and inspiration on what urban greening solutions have so far worked (and haven't!) in their cities. "This initiative is an excellent example of the importance of European collaboration - the greening of small spaces in one city might not change much but put together, across multiple cities, they form a mosaic of green that creates real impact." - Sol Gustafsson Storvik, Innovation Consultant at Bax and GreenDense Project Lead. Green is becoming the new gold for cities...🌆💚 From Paris to Singapore, cities worldwide are racing to go greener, bolder, and more climate-resilient. By 2026, Paris aims to plant 170,000 new trees and cool its streets with “urban forests.” 🌳 Singapore is scaling vertical forests, skyscrapers wrapped in living ecosystems, with a million new trees by 2030. 🌿 In Melbourne, old parking lots are transforming into mini jungles to combat heat and boost urban biodiversity. 🌱 But this isn’t just “environmentalism.” It’s modern urban strategy, improving well-being, real estate value, and everyday livability. Still, progress is uneven. Some cities move at speed, while others stay stuck in endless “pilot project” mode. What makes the difference? How quickly cities turn vision into visible proof. ⚡ The time is now. The green race is on. 🌍💚 Which city do you think is leading, and which one is still at the starting line? 👇 #GreenCities #UrbanInnovation #Sustainability #CityDesign #ClimateAction
