Most European countries have their own challenges to attract, train and retain professional drivers, but it's often the case that strategies act in regional and national isolation, without looking at good practices going on elsewhere. Sharing knowledge is such a simple, effective way to learn from others. It's great to see Ireland gaining membership of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) to help tackle regional migration issues because the opportunities for the labour market, particularly for truck and bus drivers, cannot be ignored. #numbertwentyone #icmpd #migration #beyondborders https://lnkd.in/d2K5QJsQ

(c) In a video interview, Patrick Doelle, from DG HOME, European Commission, highlighted the vital role of migration while discussing the Prague Process Advanced Training for High-Quality Asylum Procedures, organized in Rome in 2018. In this short video with the participants of the training, he emphasized the benefits of the training, particularly how it equips officials to better manage migration challenges and improve asylum procedures, reinforcing the importance of migration as a solution to labor market needs. As many countries grapple with workforce shortages and aging populations, migration offers a sustainable way to meet workforce demands. 💡 #FactsAboutPragueProcess #PragueProcess15years #migration Prague Process International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD)

🤝 Ireland became the 21st Member State to join ICMPD and contribute to finding innovative solutions for regional migration challenges. Ireland and ICMPD have been working together for the past 20 years, collaborating on a number of migration governance projects through research. Among many others, these include studies around: - Irregular migration and trends and outcomes of regularisation policies, as well as analysis of various policy implementation (MIrreM - Measuring Irregular Migration); - Evaluating the framework and practice of the Common European Asylum System (CEASEVAL); and - Producing evidence to support policy in the EU on complementary pathways to admit adult refugees through technical and vocational skills (REF-VET). ICMPD Director General, Michael Spindelegger, welcomed Ireland as ICMPD's newest Member States and highlighted the country's active role in tackling issues around migration. Mr. Spindelegger also shared that: 💬 “Beyond being a destination country for migrants, Ireland’s active collaboration with ICMPD and the country’s experience in responding to various migration themes, will strengthen our possibilities to respond jointly and more effectively to the opportunities and challenges, and work towards improved migration systems at the regional level." 🔗 Discover more at: https://lnkd.in/d2K5QJsQ #MigrationCooperation #MigrationPolicy #Ireland #VET Department of Justice

Reinforcing multi-level #policy #coordination for #integration in 🇮🇹 #Italy 📢🌍 The Council of Europe’s policy brief "Integration Practices and #Participation of People with #Migration Background: The Role and Action of #Local #Authorities: Priorities, Challenges, and Opportunities" (in Italy) is now available. 🧐 This policy brief is one of the activities realised in the project "Reinforcing multi-level policy coordination for integration in Italy," in support of the Italian Ministry of Labour and Social Policies. The project is co-financed by the #EuropeanUnion through the Technical #Support Instrument (#TSI) and implemented by the Council of Europe in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support (DGREFORM) of the European Commission. 🚀 Migration is not just about people moving from one country to another, but rather a dynamic phenomenon happening at the local level. The integration process of migrants starts and involves the areas where they settle down, and where they #interact with institutions and the local #community. 🔍 The Policy Brief focuses on the important role that local #communities and authorities play in integrating migrants. It presents various experiences and practices implemented at the local, national, and European levels. Moreover, the document provides #recommendations to establish an effective #governance model that can address the needs of migrants and local communities. These recommendations are divided into five #key intervention areas: #Mapping, #Training, #Tailored Services, #Communication, and #Networking. 🗓 ICEI - Istituto Cooperazione Economica Internazionale developed a preliminary version of this document through analysis and documentary research. The document was then shared with representatives from #municipalities, the #academic world, central administrations, #civilsociety entities, #international organisations, and private bodies dealing with #immigration and tackling #discrimination and discussed in a workshop in Rome on May 23, 2023 for more information and download the Policy Brief: https://lnkd.in/dtADR6FJ

Last week, the Kick-off meeting of the “AMIL - Alliance Multi-stakeholder for Migrants Integration and Labour” project took place in Rome, 🇮🇹 This incredible project aims to foster sustainable integration of third-country nationals into the #labour market by promoting and enhancing the ‘MEIC – Migrants Economic Integration Cluster.’ 🌍💼 The MEIC, initially developed under the LIME #project, is a dynamic multi-level and multi-stakeholder #cluster dedicated to advancing the labour inclusion of #migrants in EU countries. 🤝🌐 AMIL brings an innovative and #participative approach, forging local public-private partnerships to create context-sensitive #solutions. Our goal is to expand and refine good #practices, boosting #coordination at multiple levels. 🌟🤝 Operating locally, nationally, and across Europe, AMIL will implement the MEIC model in Italy, Cyprus, and Greece. This will significantly improve employability and socio-economic inclusion for our target group, migrant individuals. 🚀👷♂️👩🏭 At the EU level, we aim to spread the MEIC model far and wide, benefiting countless communities. Let's make a difference together! 🌍✨ CODECA Cy (Center for Social Cohesion, Development and Care) - PwC Greece - CIES ONLUS - ΣΕΒΕ - Σύνδεσμος Εξαγωγέων - Programma integra - Cgil di Roma e Lazio

Magnus Brunner was appointed the new EU Commissioner in charge of migration issues at a time when migration remains an important topic across Europe. The new EU will also count on Roxana Mînzatu as Executive Vice-President for People, Skills and Preparedness, a portfolio that will be crucial for a people-centred approach to integration. The development of migration policies should consider local governments as effective integration strategies at the local level ensure that basic services such as housing, healthcare, and education are accessible to migrants, helping them to get included more smoothly in society. In addition, local governments are best positioned to promote social cohesion by addressing the specific needs of migrants while fostering dialogue between newcomers and other citizens. The European Commissioners can count on cities and our local politicians to work together for successful integration strategies that will lead to stronger, more resilient communities and help reduce marginalisation. We propose: 🔸 Simona Bieliune, deputy mayor of Vilnius 🔸 Rutger Groot Wassink, deputy mayor of Amsterdam As our Shadow Commissioners on 'Welcoming cities'. #TeamLocalEurope

📢Programma Integra, one of the Italian partners of AMIL - Alliance Multi-stakeholders for Migrants Integration and Labour, a European initiative promoting the sustainable integration of third-country nationals into the labor market, explores in a new article the reasons why Italy, Cyprus, and Greece were chosen as key countries and delves into the current conditions of migrants in the European labor market. 📊 In Italy, 36% of migrant workers have temporary contracts, compared to 12.7% of natives, while in Greece, the unemployment rate among migrants has reached 22.2%. These figures highlight the urgency of initiatives like AMIL, which aim to improve working conditions and economic inclusion for migrants. 🤓Want to know more? this strategic maneuver represents a pragmatic approach towards achieving immigration targets without necessitating an influx of new entrants into the economy. By prioritizing candidates who have already established roots within the country, the government aims to mitigate strain on critical support sectors, fostering sustainable growth and development. Integrating for a better Europe - Across Europe, cities are providing sustainable integration pathways for migrants and creating welcoming societies for all. "In a world marked by increasing globalisation and population mobility, integrating migrants into local communities has emerged as a pressing concern for cities worldwide. Across Europe, cities play an important role in providing sustainable integration pathways and creating welcoming societies for all. City leaders and their local administrations recognise that welcoming, integrating and co-living approaches should be supported and implemented by collaboration across all levels of government. However, cities often highlight their difficulties in securing EU funding through national programmes, due to challenges such as political obstacles, when national and local governments belong to different political parties." Don't miss this blog post by Jacqueline Broadhead and Denis Kierans (Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS)) on the need to improve approaches to integration within #migration policy. They argue that the welcoming of migrants needs to be a permanent function of #LocalGovernment, supported by a devolved system of local and regional partnerships. “[…] immigration only works when integration works and many migration questions ultimately become questions of integration: understanding how we welcome newcomers, how communities deal with the pace of change and its economic impacts, and ultimately, how we live well together. “Integration covers proactive policy interventions and natural processes over time. Whilst the UK policy landscape on integration has often been characterised by inertia and a ‘tangled web of responsibilities,’ everyday welcoming also forms part of the water we all swim in.” In our latest blog✍, Jacqueline Broadhead and Denis Kierans, University of Oxford’s Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS), discuss approaches to welcoming and integration within migration policy 🤝 Read now ➡ https://lnkd.in/gEaGbBJg #Migration
