AI Improves Diagnostic Accuracy in Sydney EDs New research from Sydney emergency departments shows that an AI-assisted chest X-ray tool can meaningfully improve diagnostic accuracy in the ED preventing one misdiagnosis for every 17 patients reviewed. Key takeaways: * Up to 12% improvement in diagnoses overall, with the biggest gains (~11.8%) among doctors with ~3 years’ experience. * Study involved 200 clinicians across five Sydney EDs, using a tool developed by Australian company Harrison.ai. * The trial deliberately included cases known to trigger AI false positives/negatives—offering rare insight into how clinicians respond when AI is wrong. Even marginal gains matter in high-stakes conditions like pneumonia, pneumothorax, trauma, and heart failure. In a typical ED shift reading 30–40 scans, reducing even a couple of misdiagnoses can be life-changing for patients. This is evidence of AI working as intended: augmenting (not replacing) clinicians, especially in high-pressure environments. The platform is already in use across parts of NSW and by major imaging providers (I-MED, Harbour Radiology, Sonic Healthcare). Kudos to Prof. Farah Magrabi and team for a rigorous, clinician-in-the-loop evaluation, and to Prof. Michael Dinh and RPA for leading real-world trials. We're releasing the largest public collection of 3D gait meshes for Parkinson's Disease: 9 cohorts, 8 clinical sites, 363 participants, 18+ hours of anonymized SMPL sequences.
