🙌 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 Even if was adopted 28 years ago, the 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗟𝗥𝗖) is still the fundamental text for the #recognition of #qualifications in Europe, writes Sjur Bergan. Developed jointly by the Council of Europe and UNESCO, the LRC has by now been ratified by 5️⃣7️⃣ countries. It is an essential part of the European Higher Education Area (#EHEA) and, through UNESCO, the LRC also has global impact. #IDEA is pleased to announce the publication of its new book “The (Major) Challenges of the #Education System in Luxembourg”. I’m delighted to share that our co-authored research paper, developed under the Research Expertise from the Academic Diaspora (READ) Fellowship and funded by the Albanian - American Development Foundation (AADF)has been accepted for publication! 🚀👇 The study examines how Circular Economy (CE) principles are integrated into teaching practices within Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Albania. Using a mixed-methods approach, our team mapped current pedagogical frameworks, identified challenges, and proposed strategic recommendations to strengthen the integration of CE across higher education. Drawing on data from 252 students, 27 academics, and 15 stakeholders within the Quadruple Helix model, the findings reveal both gaps and promising innovations, particularly in interdisciplinary learning and student-led sustainability projects. This work contributes to global efforts to embed Circular Economy principles in higher education, offering transferable frameworks and tools relevant for transitional and low-resource systems aiming to advance sustainability. How stimulating to join a highly productive symposium on the future of research evaluation led by Hamid Bouabid, Director of Scientific Research and Innovation at the Ministère de l'Enseignement Supérieur, de la Recherche Scientifique et de l'Innovation - Maroc, Kingdom of Morocco 🇲🇦. Morocco is developing an exciting National Research Accreditation Framework (NAF), with some parallels with the UK’s Research Excellence Framework (REF), and I was delighted to share an in-depth look at Times Higher Education's approach to research performance measurement, mainly via our gold-standard World University Rankings. It is a little known fact that the THE's world rankings were first conceived in 2003 as an international research performance benchmarking tool for UK government policymakers and university leaders - and that's why they are so widely trusted by governments and sector strategists today. A recommendation for the creation of a global ranking came in a 2003 report for the UK's HM Treasury, by former CBI (Confederation of British Industry) chief, Richard Lambert, on university-business links - the Lambert Review. It pointed out at the time: "Government policy is to finance university research in such a way as to ensure that the UK has a number of institutions able to compete with the best in the world, but it has no yardsticks against which it can measure its success in this endeavour. British universities are still much too inclined to benchmark themselves against each other, failing to recognise that in a global marketplace what counts is how they stand up against the best in the world. "A league table of the world’s best research-intensive universities would provide the Government with a way of assessing its research funding efforts. It would provide academics with a valuable reality check, and help vice-chancellors in their efforts to win the support of their colleagues and the Government for their strategic plans." This is just what Times Higher Education delivered, first in November 2004 - and we are delighted that the unique THE rankings data continues to inform policy making across the world today. 🤝 MoU Signing Ceremony The International Institute for Regional and International Studies (IIRIS) and the Centre for Alternative Perspectives (CAP) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote academic partnership, research collaboration, and mutual exchange of ideas. The MoU was signed by Mr. Shafiqat Rasool, President of IIRIS, and Dr. Sidra Ahmed, President of CAP. The ceremony was also graced by the presence of the CAP leadership team, including Dr. Samreen Aamir Bari (Founding Chairperson), Dr. Fatima Agha Shah (Vice President), Dr. Sundas Basharat Ahmad (General Secretary), and Ms. Nida Imran (Director Events). As editors of an emergent higher education journal, we’ve been reflecting on how journals can move beyond traditional structures to make room for different ways of knowing. Too often, research grounded in Indigenous methodologies is reshaped to fit Western publishing expectations. Our roundtable explores what might happen if we allowed both Indigenous and Western traditions to stand side by side — not in competition, but in relationship. Drawing on creative arts research, we’re exploring an artefact + exegesis model: a way of presenting research that combines creative or practice-based work with reflective writing. We hope this approach can help: 🌿 recognise Indigenous and Western epistemologies as equally valuable, 🌿 reshape how we understand “quality” in scholarly publishing, and 🌿 encourage shared, respectful review processes that are grounded in reciprocity.
