At Veolia, we take on a leadership role to proactively balance the needs of the environment and human progress. This includes immediate action to address habitat loss and promote biodiversity, as well as implementing long-term strategies to clean up and protect essential resources, reduce carbon emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change. We work with our customers to identify opportunities on their sites where we can set up projects that help plants and animals thrive. In Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, we worked with a customer in the pharmaceutical industry to transform 40 acres of unused land into valuable wildlife habitat: a monarch butterfly garden certified by the North American Butterfly Association. After invasive European buckthorn was removed and replaced with native tree saplings and milkweed, the area evolved into a flourishing wildflower meadow. The team then added a bug hotel to provide winter shelter for solitary bee species. Addressing habitat loss requires immediate action and long-term strategy. Our work in Ontario showcases both: transforming 40 acres into certified wildlife habitat by replacing invasive species with native trees, milkweed and even adding a bug hotel. These customer site partnerships are essential to promoting biodiversity.

Mexico is losing forests at one of the fastest rates in the world. With 180,000 hectares disappearing each year and over a third of its land already severely degraded, urgent action is needed. A coalition led by Reforestamos México, WRI México, and WWF México is working to change this. The alliance connects g stakeholders, guides restoration efforts, and mobilises investment in ecosystem recovery. At 1t.org, we advance a nature-positive future that benefits people, biodiversity, and the planet. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e6eUhNzP

At Climate Week NYC, we launched our latest report, Unearthing Value, in partnership with Nature United. The report features a series of case studies spotlighting investments in natural capital that are returning value for people, the environment, and businesses. During our launch event: ➡️ Christine Smith-Martin shared how the Great Bear Rainforest PFP has mobilized long-term conservation financing, leading to the growth or establishment of 144 businesses, and many more economic, social and environment benefits. ➡️Daniel Shemie discussed the progress Norfolk farmers in the U.K. are making in diversifying their revenue streams through environmental markets, like the biodiversity net-gain scheme. ➡️ Thomas Viegas emphasized the importance of long-term partnerships that break up the short funding cycles (1-3 years) that can’t deliver on scaled restoration projects. Aviva’s partnership with Nature Conservancy of Canada/Conservation de la nature Canada is an example of long-term investments in grassland restoration in Saskatchewan. ➡️ Jill Bieri laid out The Nature Conservancy and their partners’ journey in scaling the largest seagrass restoration project in the world, which now serves as a proof of concept for how to bring blue carbon projects to carbon offset markets. ➡️ And Mike Nemeth, P.Ag. highlighted the need for collective action, including farmers, in proving the return on investment from implementing water stewardship plans through the Lake Winnipeg Basin Project. 🔽 Read the full case studies, including others from P.E.I., Scotland, and Whistler, B.C., in our new research, Unearthing Value - https://lnkd.in/gsauYaWQ Coast Funds, Coastal First Nations - Great Bear Initiative, Aviva, Nutrien, Wendling Beck

Crown Estate Scotland environment grant funding enabled our tenant, Craignish Lagoon Moorings Association, to partner with Seawilding on seagrass meadow restoration in Loch Craignish. Together they restored 1,000m² of seagrass, vital for biodiversity and carbon storage, harvesting 200,000 seeds and testing new planting methods. The project created jobs, trained young conservationists, and raised public awareness through community events. Seagrass covers just 0.4% of the loch but supports 68% of its biodiversity, underlining the impact of targeted, nature-based solutions. In the spirit of Scotland’s Climate Week, this partnership demonstrates how practical, community-driven nature restoration delivers benefits for climate resilience and local people. By focusing on collaborative action and skills development, Craignish Lagoon Moorings Association and Seawilding are building a more climate-ready community and supporting Scotland’s vision for a greener, more sustainable future where every local project contributes to national progress. Our Environment Grants for tenants are still open and close on Mon 27th October. World Habitat Day Today’s a chance to reflect on the role we all play in protecting and enhancing biodiversity for future generations. At Freedom, we understand that our responsibilities go beyond day-to-day operations. Our Environmental and Land team supports our clients in managing their land responsibly, with services that promote ecological stewardship - such as estate management, biodiversity planning, and sustainability consultancy. In Suffolk, our team is currently delivering winter maintenance at a wildlife habitat mitigation site that’s home to water voles, bats, and a rich variety of aquatic plants. Our licensed ecologists take a sensitive approach to willow reduction and reed management, ensuring nests, roosts, and pathways remain undisturbed. We also carefully manage water levels to help native plant species thrive - supporting the site’s biodiversity goals.

We’ve launched a tree planting programme that supports reforestation, biodiversity, and local employment across multiple regions. And we've started by planting a tree for each member of our team. 🌳 💚 The locations and projects we have chosen include locations where we live and operate, where our customers are based and where climate change is impacting biodiversity the most. It's not just about planting trees; it's about sowing the potential for a brighter ecological future, and it shows our commitment to reforestation, conservation and restoration. Find out more about our reforestation projects 👉 https://buff.ly/MVexhKk
