Really pleased to see the government rule out zonal pricing for the GB electricity system. This is the best news for billpayers, the transition and for the UK's renewable energy industry and supply chain. A stable market with reforms is the best route to delivering the Government's goals for Clean Power 2030, while protecting consumers from market instability and any unfair postcode pricing which proved unpopular. There's still a lot of work to be done across industry and government to move faster with buildout and passing the savings from renewables onto billpayers (primarily a hefty amount of grid buildout) but it's good for everyone that we can move on from the zonal debate and get on with building a renewable-based electricity system across the UK. The transition can only happen while there's a healthy and investable renewable energy sector to transition into, and the announcement today helps secure jobs across the UK for the future. Research from Resources for the Future (RFF) finds that states without strong clean energy policies would see the largest electricity price hikes if the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) were repealed early. Modeling across eight clean energy leadership states shows electricity prices would be 3% lower with full IRA implementation but rise 9% without it. Redirecting carbon pricing revenues to ratepayers could instead reduce costs by 6%, doubling the savings expected under the IRA alone. I was reading through this breakdown of electricity generation across Australia’s states. The numbers confirm that the energy transition is underway, but uneven. - In 2024, fossil fuels still made up 64% of Australia’s electricity generation (coal ~45%, gas ~17%). - States like NSW, Victoria and Queensland continue to rely heavily on coal. - Tasmania generates nearly all its electricity from renewables (mostly hydro + wind), and South Australia leads in variable renewables like wind + solar. - Australia’s overall renewable share is growing , coal has slipped below 50% in the national mix. This mix has big implications for infrastructure: 1. We need midstream, transmission and storage capacity that can support higher renewables shares 2. Grid resilience must be designed for variability and stressed conditions 3. Regional energy infrastructure should be tailored to local resources (solar, wind, hydro) 4. Strategic investment in underserved states is essential to avoid “clean energy islands” If our energy infrastructure isn’t ready to support this shift, we won’t maximise the potential of renewable deployment. #EnergyTransition #ElectricityMix #Renewables #InfrastructureResilience #Australia

Contracts for Difference (CfDs) have been central to the UK’s renewable energy growth, protecting households from volatile fossil fuel prices while unlocking investment in clean power. Yet some have called for dismantling CfDs in favour of fossil fuels, a move that could expose consumers to higher bills and slow progress toward net zero. Our recent analysis compares CfDs with alternative support mechanisms, highlighting the trade-offs between investor certainty, consumer protection, and long-term energy security. A thoughtful debate is needed: how can we balance affordability, energy reliability, and decarbonisation in the UK energy market? #EnergyPolicy #Renewables #UKEnergy #NetZero #CfD #EnergyTransition https://lnkd.in/dUq3r-zb Richard Winterbourne Adam Hill Peter Kristensen Hilton Supra Martyn Price Mads Bøndergaard Gary Spicer Edward Males Sean McNeill

Reversing federal policies will have "severe" impacts on electricity affordability, Resources for the Future says, but states can implement carbon pricing to drive down ratepayers' energy prices and incentivize more renewable energy development. #SolarEnergy #USEnergy #EnergyStorage

Analysis shows that even without tax credits, renewables are still the cheapest sources of new energy generation. https://lnkd.in/g-msUiAq #Sustainability #Climate #ClimateJustice #Renewables #RenewableEnergy #KeepItInTheGround #CleanEnergy #Motivation
