Stricter CO₂ rules don’t just set higher targets, they also reshape road tolls.
For fleet managers, that means cleaner trucks will pay less. By 2030, all heavy-duty vehicles will need to cut emissions by 43%. And with the new Eurovignette directive, toll costs will directly reflect how much CO₂ your fleet produces.
The difference is significant: in countries already applying the new rules, annual toll costs for a diesel truck can reach €46,500 – while an electric truck pays less than €7,000.
Curious how much your fleet could actually save? See the full breakdown on our website: 👇

Fuel costs, maintenance, emissions zones… managing a fleet is no small task.
That’s why more operators are turning to leasing and finance to keep their vehicles up to date.
Here’s what you need to know before funding your next truck: https://hubs.ly/Q03PkKHW0
Australia risks falling behind in its energy transition, as Europe leads the way in EV freight by aligning driver work and rest requirements with EV truck charging times. Current driver rest rules make it challenging for EV freight providers to compete with ICE freight trucks, and risks Australia failing to meet its net zero targets for transport emission reductions.

A reversal of the 5p fuel duty cut and the introduction of a pay-per-mile scheme could be on the cards for drivers in the Autumn Budget, to make up the revenue shortfall created by the increasing shift from diesel to electric and hybrid vehicles, RSM UK is warning.

The Electric Vehicle Council is calling on governments to ban the registration of new petrol and diesel cars bought after 2035.
Why? I joined James Glenday on Aunty to explain that the government has committed to reducing our national emissions by 62-70% which implies a 5x uptake of electric cars.
While the new vehicle efficiency standards and Electric Car Discount are excellent policies, we need much more to hit that target!
A ban on registrations after 2035 gives people almost 10 years to enjoy the growth in electric options and make a switch that will help them cut costs. Electric cars also make us less vulnerable to climate change and less dependent on imported foreign oil.
What do you think? What other policies do we need to strengthen our economy through electrified transport?
The Hon. Matt KeanJulie DelvecchioAlina Dini, Ph.D.
The way we think about the power needed for transport systems is changing.
The UK Bus sector has lead the way in Europe and beyond in the take up of alternatives to the traditional diesel based vehicles.
But, what are the considerations? How does an operator succeed in a volatile market place, where procurement consequences can run into decades, whilst policy makers and consumers demand alternative power options?
The CILT (UK) Environmental and Sustainability Forum along with the East Midlands Region are holding an event at First Bus's excellent Leicester depot on Tue 11th Nov from 11am to 1pm. Details in the comments.
