179 years ago today, our founder - George Westinghouse - was born! Today, we celebrate his numerous honors and achievements that acclaimed him to be the “greatest living engineer” in his time. 💡 George Westinghouse received 360 patents for his work and commercialized the alternating current - forever changing how electricity was distributed. "George Westinghouse was one of the world's true noblemen, of whom America may well be proud and to whom humanity owes an immense debt of gratitude," fellow inventor and business partner, Nikola Tesla, wrote in his tribute.
A true pioneer whose vision still shapes modern energy. Westinghouse didn’t just innovate technology; he built the foundation for how the world generates and distributes power. His legacy continues to inspire the next generation of engineers driving progress in nuclear and beyond.
As a teenager, I began my professional career at a Westinghouse unit in Brazil. I graduated in electrical engineering and received every kind of encouragement and training to develop a career at the company that lasted 22 years. It's been more than 50 years since my first day at Westinghouse, and to this day, I feel immense gratitude and pride for the time I spent at this remarkable company. George Westinghouse, a great figure of humanity.
Great person who had the respect of employees
Awesome visual!
George Westinghouse created an iconic company. Time to bring all of the great American companies back to the U.S.A. We need strong leaders that have a vision focused on invention. We don't need a bunch of companies developing products based on some marketing research firm.
Happy Birthday, George Westinghouse!! Thanks for a GREAT COMPANY!!
This is such a great reminder of a true pioneer. It’s amazing to think how George Westinghouse’s innovations built the foundation for the safe, scalable power distribution we still rely on today. His work continues to shape the clean energy transition — a legacy that truly lights up generations.

1wMy favorite American titan. Trained in his father’s machine shop, he married his high school sweetheart and treated his workers with the utmost respect by cutting hours to a nine-hour day, instituting a 55-hour week with the Saturday half-holiday, and offering pensions, medical care, and safer factories. This is the kind of leadership that resonates for generations.
