The circular economy can only be achieved through shared responsibility - in every sector. Product stewardship is at its heart a simple idea with great potential for results: a policy approach that considers the responsibilities of each actor in the supply chain. To put it simply - whoever designs, produces, sells or uses a product should take responsibility for minimising that product’s environmental impact. As part of our aim to rewire the economy, we've supported the development of Scotland’s Circular Economy & Waste Route Map to 2030. The document lays out a plan of our we're going to tackle the environmental impact of priority products, and in particular the strategic approach to textile - and product stewardship will play a vital role. Beyond Recycling: What Circular Economy Really Means For decades, recycling has been seen as the ultimate solution to our waste problem. But in reality, it only touches the surface and often gives us the illusion of responsibility while the system underneath remains broken. Most plastic waste still ends up in landfills or incinerators. Recycling alone doesn’t solve the root cause. It’s time to move beyond waste management and start redesigning the system itself. That’s why we are hosting this session at Alner Academy to help individuals, businesses, and policymakers understand how reuse, refill, and EPR can create a truly circular and sustainable system. What You’ll Learn: 1. Why recycling isn’t enough and how to redesign the system, not just manage waste. 2. The short loop concept, how reuse & refill retain more value and reduce emissions. 3. The human side of circularity from daily habits to local community action. 4. How startups & brands can build profitable circular business models. 5. The role of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in driving real change. 6. Case study: How Alner’s refill system works in practice from small shops to manufacturers. Speaker: Bintang Ekananda, founder & CEO of Alner , Lecturer in Environmental Engineering at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sorong. 📅 Friday, October 31, 2025 | 7:30 – 9:00 PM (WIB) 📍 Online via Google Meet 💰 Early Bird: Rp49,000 (until October 22, 2025) 🎁 Includes shopping voucher & special gifts 🔗 Register at bit.ly/webinar-alner Register now! Because the circular economy isn't about fixing waste, it’s about designing a system that doesn’t create it in the first place. #Alner #BetterReuse

Global #EveryCanCounts Survey ♻️ Circularity is no longer a buzzword. It’s entering the public vocabulary. The new study shows that more than half of people worldwide now define recyclable packaging as designed for circularity — meaning it can be recycled into the same type of product again and again. At the same time, it reveals a strong public mandate for Deposit Return Schemes: — 71% support DRS — 88% believe what they return is truly recycled Yet awareness still lags. Only 17% identify aluminium drink cans as “the most recyclable” beverage packaging, despite the fact that cans are the most recycled beverage container in the world, with a 71% global recycling rate. Infinitely recyclable and already widely collected, aluminium cans are proof that truly circular packaging is possible. The challenge now? Closing the awareness gap. The survey was conducted across 16 countries where Every Can Counts is active. 🔗 Read the full findings: https://lnkd.in/d5Wz56a3 #CircularEconomy #Recycling #DRS #Sustainability #MetalRecyclesForever #GlobalSurvey #RecyclingHabits

Every Can Counts has just released the results of its wave III global consumer survey, and data show that people do care, they just want to feel part of the change and understand why real recycling matters. Deposit Return Schemes are the start, not the finish, and ECC will keep on educating consumers about the manifold sustainable assets of the aluminium drink can. Let’s be even clearer on these benefits, consumer perception is often not based on facts and figures; the overall image of the drink can deserves much better!

We all talk about sustainable packaging, recyclable films, paper trays, and compostable materials. But there is one question that often gets missed: 👉 Can it actually keep the food fresh? Because no matter how green the material is… If the pack leaks, it is not sustainable. Why? • 1.05 billion tonnes of food were wasted in 2022 (UNEP) • Food waste is responsible for 8 to 10 % of global greenhouse emissions, more than aviation • Preventing spoilage delivers far more carbon savings than switching materials So while material choice matters, pack integrity matters more. ✅ Leak-free seals ✅ Stable MAP levels ✅ Consistent shelf life That is what actually prevents waste. Really proud of this perspective from the team at Thirstland. There is a lot of noise in the packaging world around “sustainable materials”, but the most sustainable pack is the one that actually protects the product. If food is leaking or spoiling early, it does not matter how recyclable or compostable the tray is; it is already waste. Packaging is not just a material choice; it is a food preservation tool. Worth a read if you work in food manufacturing, packaging or sustainability 👇

Australia talks a lot about building a circular economy, but are we really getting any closer? ♻️ Gayle Sloan's recent article was a timely reminder of what I see every day in product stewardship at Big Bag Recovery. Despite the buzz, enforceable regulation is still missing. Arguably, the missing piece we need to turn circularity from talk into practice. The national Circular Economy Framework adopted last December promised to double Australia’s circularity by 2035. Voluntary partnerships and co-regulatory schemes have value, but we can only go so far. Without enforceable obligations, companies are left carrying the load while bad actors continue business as usual. We see this play out daily with bulk bags and sacks. Materials that flow in massive volumes, too often ending up as costly waste streams that are either burned or buried. At Big Bag Recovery, we’re proud to be part of the solution. But to scale this sustainably, we need consistent mandates and regulations across the country. I agree with Gayle - it’s time for government and industry to move beyond vision statements and into measurable action.

Recyclable packaging isn’t just good for the planet — it’s essential for your brand. ♻️📦 From consumer trust to regulatory compliance, the case for recyclable packaging has never been stronger. With curbside recycling systems already in place and paper-based formats like paper packaging and mono-material packaging outperforming plastic in real-world recycling rates, switching to sustainable options is a win-win. At Dufaylite, our sustainable packaging solutions use 100% recycled paper honeycomb — strong enough for everything from furniture to electronics, yet fully recyclable through everyday systems. No confusion. No compromise. Discover the 5 reasons recyclable packaging is vital for sustainable brands — and how it can cut costs, boost loyalty, and protect your reputation: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ejGNkHuG
