Birds play critical roles in our ecosystems. They are pollinators, pest controllers, scavengers, seed dispersers, and valuable indicators of ecosystem health. And they're remarkable animals that need protections. We're partnering with the Massachusetts Audubon Society to better understand the movement of migratory birds by installing a MOTUS Wildlife Tracking System here in the Boston area. This information will help inform how we can best protect them. HCTF is pleased to announce a new funding opportunity beginning in the 2026-27 grant year, “Raptors of the Fraser Valley Lowlands.” This opportunity stems from a collaboration between HCTF, the B.C. Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship, and the Hancock Wildlife Foundation. HCTF has a long history of investing in projects that restore, conserve, or enhance fish and wildlife populations and habitats, including avian raptor populations at risk. This new fund will support prioritized activities that improve outcomes for raptors (eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, etc.) of the Fraser Valley Lowlands of B.C. (Hope to Richmond/Delta). These outcomes include both direct and indirect improvements to populations or habitat for these birds.

At Six Rivers Africa, our protection and restoration work is fundamentally driven by a deep understanding of animal behavior and wildlife ecosystems. This is the core focus of our Research pillar, which works to gather and analyze data on wildlife population health and biodiversity to ensure all critical decisions are well-informed. To achieve this, our team runs key data collection initiatives: we use camera traps to monitor behavior and habitat use, conduct aerial censuses for population distribution insights, and employ animal collaring to collect vital data on individuals, all of which directly shape our conservation strategies. #ConservationResearch #TanzaniaNationalParks #AnimalCollaring

Poor data management has long limited wildlife health surveillance systems and hampered integration of environmental data into One Health frameworks. To address this gap, an international partnership led by the Wildlife Conservation Society has developed the Health and Wildlife Knowledge (HAWK) database. HAWK supports the management of diverse wildlife surveillance data: A global, open, FAIR+CARE-compliant platform enabling secure, harmonized data sharing across sectors and organizations. A public good for wildlife and One Health. Read: tinyurl.com/498np55z #wildlifesurveillance #onehealth #conservation #publichealth #transboundarydiseases #pandemicprevention #wildlifemanagement

Three years on – a renewed call to protect a wildlife haven ❗Local community groups and national wildlife organisations have once again called on Scottish Government agency NatureScot to urgently act to protect one of Ayrshire’s most important wildlife sites. 👇 https://lnkd.in/etF3DUYR 📝Three years ago, the groups asked for the Garnock Estuary to be urgently designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) – but despite the ongoing efforts of NatureScot to gather evidence necessary to assess the site’s value, the threat of development continues to hang over it. A letter sent to the Chief Executive of NatureScot today highlights the urgent need to act to preserve the Garnock Estuary. Are you hurting wildlife without even knowing it? Lots of things people do every day, whether in pest control or pet care, are detrimental to the wild creatures and plants we share the planet with — especially sensitive species. But product labels don’t tell us that. The Center’s Senior Advocate Tara Zuardo hopes a new webpage can help. In her past working in wildlife rehabilitation, Tara saw birds who’d been stuck in glue traps for many days, suffering horrifically and often fatally while struggling to escape. Remembering the harms those traps caused inspired her to compile a list of tips on what to do (like, nurture native plants) and not do (like, don’t use rat poison) to help struggling wildlife populations. The video in our post features six adorable San Joaquin kit foxes exploring the Carrizo Plain National Monument. A recent EPA evaluation found that rodenticides are specifically pushing at least 78 endangered species toward extinction, including these foxes. Our new page details ways to help them and other species ➡️ https://bit.ly/4olYwPz [Video description: No spoken audio. Season 2: Episode 44: Understanding Hemorrhagic Disease in Deer with Dr. Mark Ruder In this episode of Connecting with Conservation, hosts Jon Gassett of the Wildlife Management Institute and Jim Curcuruto from Outdoor Stewards of Conservation sit down with Dr. Mark Ruder, Director of the Southeastern Cooperative Wildlife Disease Study (SCWDS) at the University of Georgia. They explore the science, history, and management implications of hemorrhagic disease in white-tailed deer and other wildlife. Dr. Ruder breaks down how diseases like Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) and Bluetongue Virus are transmitted by biting midges, why outbreaks vary across regions, and how deer populations recover over time. The discussion also touches on misconceptions between EHD and Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), the impact of outbreaks on hunters and conservation agencies, and how wildlife health research is funded through hunter and excise tax dollars. Whether you’re a biologist, hunter, or conservation enthusiast, this episode offers a fascinating look at the intersection of wildlife health, research, and conservation funding in North America. #wildlifemanagementinstitute , #outdoorstewards , #wildlifemanagement , #deerdisease, #ehd , #cwd , #conservationpodcast , #conservation #outdoorstewards , #wildlifehealth , #hunting , #hemorrhagicdisease, #SCWDS, #universityofgeorgia , #deermanagement , #wildliferecovery https://lnkd.in/e77q2iCv

From the Field: Uncovering hidden insights with camera traps in the Kgalagadi. In collaboration with South African National Parks (SANParks) , the Endangered Wildlife Trust’s Carnivore Conservation Unit is conducting a three-month lion survey in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. While vehicle-based transects capture many sightings, camera traps provide critical data from hard-to-reach areas and nocturnal lions. These tools allow us to identify individuals and strengthen the accuracy of our population data, guiding future conservation actions. This work is powered by the Lion Recovery Fund and the Ford Wildlife Foundation. #FromTheField #LionConservation #Kgalagadi #ProtectingForeverTogether #FordWildlifeFoundation

Bobcats are making a comeback in Rhode Island, a state where they were once eradicated. A statewide project has taken a multifaceted approach, utilizing camera traps, GPS collars, and public sightings to best monitor the population. Human activities, such as car collisions and use of rodenticides, pose a major threat to bobcats and other wildlife. The use of citizen data is an approach Felidae uses to expand their data collection, and also raise awareness of the conservation status and threats to this species.
