Changing user behaviour
Users are stuck to a mental model, and they are resistant to change. They feel the current experience is an ultimate one, and there cannot be anything better than this. This behaviour hurts designers creativity, ultimately the intention is to make the experience better with every iteration.
Changing this mindset is a tough thing to do. BJ Fogg's behaviour model says if three things can happen together, human behaviour is likely to change. They are motivation, ability and trigger.
Let's take an example. You could not go running in the morning because you got stuck with something else. In this case, there is a lack of a trigger. You came last night exhausted, and you didn't get much sleep so you could not go out for running in the morning. There is a lack of ability.
You feel you are fit and you aren't overweight. Why do you even need to run? There is a lack of motivation.
As a UX designer, one should try out the following.
· Increase the number of triggers leading to the desired behaviour.
· Enhance the ability to perform the behaviour.
· Amplify motivation for doing the behaviour.
