POST RACE Grande Prémio de Portugal 2021

Considering that this was such a very particular and demanding track for the chassis geometry, Ducati fared very well: this is an important confirmation and bodes well for the future, and I am satisfied with the fast performances we were able to post despite a few difficulties. First of all, our thoughts go to Martin who will undergo surgery tomorrow: I take this opportunity to wish him a speedy recovery and a prompt return to the track.

Bagnaia brilliantly confirmed that he is rapidly becoming a most mature rider, fast and “smart” at the same time, on an important growth path both for the continuation of the championship, which sees him second in the standings, as well as for the years to come. His race was immediately compromised due to the penalty suffered on the grid by a rule as clear as it is rigid, one that punished his qualifying run, owing to a yellow flag that could hardly be seen at that particular juncture; he showed even greater mettle if we consider the way in which he rode the last laps of the race with a bike that was beginning to show some difficulties.

Miller did make an error but his talent is not in question: the team has extreme confidence in him and will do everything possible to help him regain the serenity he needs at this moment in time.

It is fair to point out that Zarco’s sliding on the other hand, for which he was not to blame, was caused by a small malfunction of the gearbox.

Fairly positive signals from Bastianini and Marini. Ninth place for Enea, his best result, confirming the promise he showed at the start of the season, even more so if we consider the times he set in the last laps with worn tires: a strong and clear signal in MotoGP. Luca for his part is maturing steadily and he confirmed this in the race after having achieved an excellent qualifying time.

Finally, Pirro completes the Ducati team: big smiles and congratulations go to him for winning the two Italian championship races at Mugello.
