Improving digital life for our customers
As CEO of CDON, the leading nordic marketplace - I usually get two questions:
1. Are you afraid that Amazon enters your market?
2. Have you considered changing the name of CDON as you no longer only sell CDs?
Amazon is an amazing company but also a scary one as they are such a dominating factor. I am concerned if their power isn’t always used to the advantage of the customers and merchants in our market. I am fearing that a potential entry may disrupt Nordic ecommerce in advantage to larger EU based companies with massive sourcing power. That means many more jobs lost in the Nordics.
My position is that CDON should never win on the expense of our merchants or customers, we should win in collaboration with our merchants and customers.
If i fail against Amazon by playing with that mindset then at least my integrity is intact. We have invested a lot into this thought and are now launching the first iteration of CDON connect which is aiming to constantly improve the support we give to our merchants based on our data, customer insights and marketing efficiency.
We want our merchants to truly succeed via our platform by being easier to access, be relevant to their total business and be more efficient than their other initiatives or marketing channels.
When we provide added value, the Nordic merchants will hopefully chose CDON and stick with us as an alternative or complement to Amazon or any other player.
Oh and regarding changing the name of CDON then? – Nope , we are not changing it anytime soon as we kind of love our name and are very proud of it. For the elderly (like me who is 40+) we still cherish the memories of a fully stacked Billy CD shelf but my kids don’t even know what a CD is. For them CDON is just an amazing place where they can find over 7 millions cool things at reasonable prices.
