Reasons Why Art Can Improve Your Workspace.

Reasons Why Art Can Improve Your Workspace.

The most obvious reason is that artwork can brighten up any work area.

Seeing a burst of color, or seeing an image that makes you happy, will not only make you feel 100% better, it can also have a refreshing effect on your brain, making you even more ready to face any problems that you may face.

But there are other reasons why artwork is useful.

BOOST PRODUCTIVITY

It’s well known that when you are feeling down and demotivated, then nothing will get you in the mood for being productive, and nothing can bring you down quicker then looking at bland walls.

Most workspaces are usually painted in neutral color, as bright and bold colors may distract you from actually getting any work done. But looking at the same wall color, day in, day out, will eventually become boring, and will bring you down.

This is when having a well placed artwork or two, in your workspace will do wonders, as it will break up the monotonous walls, and bring a little bit of color, which in turn will lift you mood, and make you more productive, then having blank (and bland) walls

REFOCUS

In this day and age, almost all work involves looking at a computer screen. Weather you are typing up a report, updating your social media or even attending a zoom meeting due to the current pandemic situation. We are all in front of a screen. It can be tiring, and can cause eye strain, and even a migraine.

So to have something to look at that isn’t a computer screen, is much more important then ever to have in your workspace.

Having artwork to look at, even for a few second, gives your brain and eyes a break, and can help you refocus your attention to the work at hand.

THE ATMOSPHERE

As mentioned above, most offices are usually painted in a neutral color to avoid getting distracted by bright colors whilst working. Even though this is very practical advice, have neutral and blank wall does make the whole atmosphere of the office very dull and boring.

Having artwork up can instantly improve the atmosphere of your office, as it bring life and color into your room. Also having the right piece of artwork that matches up to your personality, will not only bring a smile to you face when you look at it, it will even make the whole atmosphere of your work area more productive,

MOTIVATION

We have all seen those motivational posters in offices, doctors and school, where is a a gorgeous photo of scenery on a black background, with some sort of motivational words under the image... but are they really as effective as they are meant to be.

Like I mentioned above (quite a few times), that offices are generally in a neutral color... so nothing inspiring or pretty to look at. Now imagine if you added an artwork on a wall... say, an gorgeous intricate mandala design in a color that you absolutely love. Then you have something pretty to look at and to give you brain and eyes a burst of color to look at. Now imagine if there was also a quote saying ‘You are stronger then you know’...

Wouldn’t seeing a quote like that on your wall motivate you to work more effectively and harder?

Having words of encouragement will always boost moral and motivate you to work harder and smarter, hence motivational artwork has long been used in places to help and lift spirits where they are needed.

INSPIRATION

Having interesting artwork on the wall, not only shows how the artist who created the artwork got inspired, but it can also bring inspiration to you, when you hang that piece on your walls.

As a child, I wasn’t too fond of art lessons at school, as we had a task to do in lesson, and it wasn’t sparking my interest, nor inspiring me to do much ‘artistic’ work, even though I have always been super creative.

Fast forward a few years, and as a teenager and going on road trips with my parents in india during our holidays, I saw loads of bright colors, and Indian design, which I felt a connection to immediately. So I brought a few art posters, one of which was an image of an elephant with a stunning headdress on its head, and put them up on my wall back in London.

As I grew up into an adult, my life took a few turns, as they do, and after spending 10 years working in a bank (which I enjoyed working with the people, but it wasn’t my passion), I gave up work and started my own business. During which I created a simple motivational art print to be part of a goodie bag for a networking meeting that I was attending. And what was the image on the art print... an elephant with a mandala on its head, like a headdress, with the words “I’m Strong” on it

Even after so many year, that poster that I brought from india, had inspired me to create my own version of it... and that art print inspired me to create my range of animal motivational canvas artworks that I now sell.

Inspiration can come from anywhere, so having interesting artwork, or art that you can connect with, can easily inspire you when you have a breakthrough moment when you may need it the most
