R-Map Project EU x Remote-IT: Rethinking Cities For The Future of Work

Earlier this month, R-Map participated in the REMOTE-IT Final Conference in Dubrovnik (Croatia), represented by Mandy Fransz, who returned to the city where she previously served as a Dubrovnik Digital Nomad Ambassador in 2022.

In the panel session “Cities as Enablers: Supporting Ecosystems for Remote Work & Digital Nomads”, Mandy joined experts including Jean-Yves Huwart and Tracey Johnson to discuss how cities and regions can move beyond short-term digital nomad trends and actively build sustainable ecosystems for remote professionals.

Drawing from both research and personal experience, Mandy’s key message for cities and regions looking to build sustainable, remote-friendly destinations: Think beyond digital nomadism – focus on turning digital nomads into remote work residents instead.

💛 #RWWCommunity Hero Spotlight: Irena P.

Every month, we introduce an #RWWCommunity member who has shared their story, tips, and/or support to showcase our valued members around the world.

Meet Irena:

This is my 4th(!) year of working remotely. Not gonna lie, this year autumn vibes got me - the quick temperature drop, and cold, foggy mornings.

Remote work (especially the flexible kind like mine) has a lot of perks - I don’t have to wake up when it’s still dark, and it’s often still light out when I finish work and take my dog for a walk. Not having to be around people is both a blessing and a curse.

On the plus side, it’s easier to stay focused. On the downside, there’s less natural social contact during the day. And when it gets colder, we tend to plan fewer activities and isolate ourselves more.

I don’t think there’s a golden rule for dealing with SAD (seasonal affective disorder) beyond the obvious “eat and sleep well” - it’s a very personal thing. If you ever feel overwhelmed, please don’t hesitate to see a therapist.

Some small things that make my autumn days better:
