What makes an act Praiseworthy? Or should I say ‘You’ Praiseworthy…
1st September 2019,
Community club meeting, Gurgaon:
Beautiful girl on stage with her silvery voice called my name – “Now I would like to invite Mr. Pareek on stage who would take this meeting forward”.
I with my pearly white smile went up to the stage with a blue laptop bag in my hand and shook her hand while thanking her for giving me this opportunity. I gazed into the eyes of my audience, and greeting them gave a hint about this activity bringing out their inner Salesman, Actor, or Director.
This made them curious. Then I ask them to create four teams with two members each.
Now the question arose as to what the activity was all about and who amongst the audience would seize the initiative and volunteer. I told them to recall their school time especially the times when they needed to decide the batting order for playing cricket. I asked one team member to face the wall and likewise, I started numbering by putting numbers with my fingers on their back and asked, "Who will start?"
Then I opened my pitaara (blue bag) and pulled out a few items like Deo, Comb, Bournvita, bellan (chapati roller), Sunscreen lotion, Earphones, Pen, Notebook, Cough syrup, Teddy, and few other toys brought forth from my house since the purpose of the activity was to create humor.
I asked them to work as a team and make an advertisement by taking any item and pretend to sell the selected item humorously. This led to a roar of laughter amongst the team members and the audience.
The activity started. All teams came up with their unique ideas and fun ways to advertise their product. Everyone came to know their hidden talents. The team who made an advertisement on Bournvita won the prize.
But while the activity was going on, I was silently observing the audience and the teams. There were only laughs, playfulness, fun, enjoyment, and pleasure with no distractions like mobile phones, or the internet, or laptops. The relations built were in-person, something which in today’s digital world is hard to find.
After the activity, all applauded and praised me for conducting the same.
From the above act, what according to you was 'praiseworthy'?
Even without performing any act, nor winning any prize, and spending hardly a few minutes on stage… what makes the above situation worth praising?
My Opinion:
If we add humor (with a positive mind) it will attract others; it will be praised.
If you connect a group of people for a good reason and stand behind them as support; it will be praised.
If you do what makes others feel happy and safe; it will be praised.
If you serve value in your community, your workplace, or your family; it will be praised.
So, what are you waiting for, go on and get as many applauds as you can.
Comment below if have any unique observations regarding the same.
Inspire & Be Inspired,
Rahul Pareek
