Summary: When I began work with VCU theater organization Shafer Alliance Laboratory Theater, several of my peers and I lamented the lack of student-written work being produced. Together, we took it upon ourselves to change that. Over the course of my college career, I led weekly lessons to help fellow writers hone their craft, weekly workshops to revise and edit their work, and bi-annual play festivals to put their pieces on the stage. Parallel to this, I was a writer, editor, and event organizer for Blue Collard Greens, a sketch comedy group who performed every other week at venues all around Richmond. I also directed multiple stage shows and short films, and learned how to deftly coordinate and delegate between actors, designers, and technicians of all walks of life. The most challenging and rewarding experience of my post-graduate career was as a counselor for The Trevor Project's Crisis and Suicide Prevention Lifeline. There, I navigated high-stakes conversations with contacts grappling with a myriad of crises: from mental health to gender identity to homelessness. This position tested and proved my ability to actively listen, to synthesize large amounts of information in a short timeframe, and to keep a level head no matter the situation. I was then a Content Writer for CoStar Group subsidiary Homes.com, a website geared towards prospective homebuyers. This position involved intensive research into housing data, which included SEO optimization as well as conducting phone interviews with realtors and community figures. With this information, I wrote comprehensive neighborhood descriptions, as well as scripts and shot lists for accompanying videos. Most recently, I was a freelance writer for RVA Magazine, Richmond's premiere source for local art, music, and culture. Every assignment was unique and exciting, and involved a blend of research, interviews, and on-site reporting. Throughout my writing career, I also provided freelance voice talent. My abilities range from character voices for cartoons and entertainment media to archetypal tones for commercial ventures. I have continually demonstrated and improved my focus, organization, and commitment. But most importantly, I have always prioritized the members of my team. Whether or not I am in a leadership position, I make sure that everyone around me is respected, heard, and set up for success. All in all, my experience has taught me how to take very little-- very little budget, very little time, very little planning-- and run with it. Whatever prompt or project comes my way, I can spin it into gold.
