AlpTextyles - Interreg Alpine Space Project
Textile Manufacturing
The AlpTextyles project aims to establish a more sustainable textile industry in the Alps and promote green lifestyles.
About us
AlpTextyles is an Interreg Alpine Space project to establish a more sustainable textile industry in the Alps and promote green lifestyles. When it comes to reducing carbon emissions and designing sustainable practices, how can we make an impact that is feasible, effective, and long-lasting for the textile industry? In the Alpine region, the textile ecosystem wasn’t always as polluting as it is today. AlpTextyles believes its rich heritage and ingrained values of circularity and sensitivity to local resources are pivotal for a future where sustainable practices are rooted in local resources and boost regional economic growth. Twelve partner organizations from Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, and Switzerland join hands to create a common ground of knowledge and expertise and re-territorialize the local textile value chains disrupted by a global sourcing and offshore production. Through cross-border collaboration on building business and cultural solutions, the goal is to accelerate the relocalization of sustainable textile value chains in the Alps and promote greener practices and lifestyles.

🗺️ UNESCO’s International Day for the Intangible Cultural Heritage AlpTextyles celebrates the living knowledge woven into our textile traditions — the skills, gestures, and collective intelligence passed from hand to hand. These practices are more than heritage; they are evolving systems of care and resilience, shaping a more circular future for our craft and industry and inspiring more sustainable lifestyles. At #AlpTextyles, we see textiles as bearers of memory and innovation — living archives of technique, material, and meaning. By supporting bottom-up solutions and community-driven, collaborative approaches, we strive to keep this heritage alive not as nostalgia, but as a resource for sustainable transformation. Knowledge isn’t static. It’s made and remade every day — through collaboration, experimentation, and the quiet persistence of intertwining cultures. Last week in Bucharest, during Romanian Creative Week I was invited to speak about cultural Intellectual Property Rights® (CIPR) as human rights belonging to Indigenous Peoples, Ethnic Groups, and Local Communities worldwide—rights grounded in the legal recognition of care and collective custodianship over Biocultural Heritage, Traditional Knowledge (TK) systems, and Traditional Cultural Expressions (TCEs). As biocultural heritage and the creative economy increasingly intersect, this conference created space for deep, necessary reflection on how we can: • Distinguish between conventional intellectual property (IP) and cultural intellectual property (CIP) as a sui-generis legal protection system • Design ethical collaboration frameworks with custodians of Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expressions based on the 3C Rule Consent. Credit. Compensation (2017) • Catalyze systemic change in the creative industries nurturing reciprocity, care, responsability • Support custodians of Traditional Knowledge, Traditional Cultural Expressions and Biodiversity, including heritage based knowledge related to textile value chains, gastronomy, natural remedies, traditional crafts, vernacular architecture From the conversations with the participants and allies like Cassiano Luminati from AlpTextyles - Interreg Alpine Space Project and Teodor Frolu, several key insights emerged: 🔹 Sui-generis protections are not only globally relevant—they resonate deeply within Romania’s cultural landscape 🔹 Protection must also reward care and responsibility, not just novelty — recognizing the rights of those who safeguard and sustain cultural ecosystems 🔹 True collaboration requires deep listening, humility, and a willingness to engage with complex, lived realities that lie beyond one’s own experience 🔹 With Romania’s multiethnic and culturally diverse communities, a bottom-up, community-led approach is not optional—it is essential A heartfelt thank you to Lucian Broscățean and Creative Research Academy for facilitating this dialogue and colleagues from ORDA and OSIM for being present! #culturalintellectualproperty #romania #traditionalknowledge #traditionalculturalexpressions #bioculturalheritage #creativeindustries #romania Fotographs courtesy of Romanian Creative Week Foto Credits: Bulat Daniel, Raluca Ciornea, Antonia Budeanu, Diana Buznea, Amanda Maier

👏 On September 30, our Robin Oddon from TECHTERA participated in the “INTERREG 2021-2027 Seminar: Assessment, Valorisation, and Outlook in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes,” held at the Hôtel de Région in Lyon organized by Region Aura. The seminar was a great opportunity to showcase how local resources, innovation, and collaboration can support sustainable regional economies across the Alpine space: https://lnkd.in/dbTRNKAn As a panelist in the session “Local Resources, Drivers of the Future: What Interregional Opportunities for a Sustainable Regional Economy?”, Robin emphasized the capacity of AlpTextyles to address resource management and create added value in the Alps by drawing on local specificities such as resources, know-how, culture, and heritage. The discussion also highlighted our pilot action on natural dyes and the importance of Interreg programmes in engaging public authorities in collaborative partnerships that link micro and macro perspectives — with wool valorization as a concrete example. In the interactive workshops, we focused on generating ideas to strengthen the Interreg framework, from involving newcomers in the programme to enhancing the dissemination, transfer, and impact of project results — which reconnected to AlpTextyles’ achievements including: 🌿 Natural dyes from Alpine plant extracts 📘 Orientation guide for SMEs and Toolkits for safeguarding Alpine textile heritage 🎓 MOOC on the living textile heritage of the Alps 📝 Policy brief for evolving public policies 🤝 Community events for co-creation and knowledge transfer Speaking of results, the AlpTextyles Final Event is only a few weeks away! We are looking forward to welcoming you to this celebratory day of inspiring roundtables, networking, and exhibitions. 📍October 21 | Hôtel de Région, Lyon Info and registration: https://lnkd.in/dDHe8ZiW Interreg Alpine Space Interreg Europe EUSALP #Interreg #InterregAlpineSpace #MadeWithInterreg #MadeWithAlpineSpace #AlpineSpace #AlpTextyles #IntertwiningCultures #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #TextileHeritage #AlpineProducts #Collaboration #Innovation Polo Poschiavo ZRC SAZU – Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts emlyon business school emlyon Lifestyle Research Center Razvojna agencija Sora / Development Agency Sora Regione Lombardia Confindustria Moda BELLISSIMO Marangoni Istituto TECHTERA Stand Montafon Mediplant FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg
