About us

CGIAR's Capacity Sharing Accelerator will drive a culture shift towards more equal and healthier partnerships for capacity sharing between and among CGIAR and partners advancing food, land, and water systems transformation, placing a strong emphasis on gender equality, women’s empowerment, and youth inclusion. We will integrate innovative approaches in data, digital tools, scaling strategies, and soft-skills programs to build capacities among partners and within CGIAR, working across local, national, regional, and global contexts. This will address the fragmented, top-down, Global North-driven approach which has shaped the traditional capacity development in agricultural research.

🌱 The Collaborative Breeding Leadership Program (CBLP) strengthens the leadership & management capacity of CGIAR & national breeding programs, providing a development platform for future leaders in breeding in #Africa! CBLP focuses on medium career scientists & breeders with the potential and the aspiration to lead breeding programs. The program helps them through: 🔸 A talent development ecosystem that fosters innovation & teamwork 🔸 Partnership-based training for continuous capacity development 🔸 Support to career growth & leadership opportunities, strengthening breeding programs across crops and regions 🎓 After a year of learning and collaboration, 12 graduates of the program working across 15 crops were celebrated at the African Plant Breeders Association – APBA Conference. Congratulations to all! 👏 CBLP is a cross-Center effort funded by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, hosted by International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and supported by Breeding for Tomorrow and CGIAR Capacity Sharing Accelerator

We fund data. But are we funding mentorship? As the research community seeks pipeline development and early-career support for researchers, we need to also ask: do we fund the parts that turn raw data into peer-reviewed outputs? Too often, early‑career researchers fall into a “missing middle”, where they have the ideas and data but no scaffolding to translate it into policy‑relevant publications. That’s where mentorship capital, (built on time + trust + transfer) becomes critical.
