Your input will help address key challenges in the agri-food chain and shape future policy options. The goal is to strengthen farmers’ position and the economic viability of farmers and small suppliers by improving protection against unfair trading practices. This includes looking at stronger enforcement, addressing the “fear factor” and at targeted updates to the rules where needed. As part of the journey through Europe’s rich food culture, participants explored a biodynamic farm in Ypres, Belgium. This proved to be an inspiring example of how sustainability thrives in the heart of Europe.  Across the fields, they discovered an impressive diversity of seasonal produce, from vibrant vegetables to delicate herbs and edible flowers, all cultivated in ways that support the land and promote natural harmony. From fostering biodiversity to respecting natural cycles, the visit showcased the practices that define Europe’s approach to responsible food production. 🌾 Simpler rules are on the way for farmers. 🚜 The recent political agreement on the #CAP simplification package brings practical improvements designed to make farmers’ lives easier. The goal is simple: less time on paperwork, more time in the field. The upcoming changes will: 📄⬇️ reduce reporting and administrative steps ✔️ make requirements clearer and easier to follow 🔄 streamline procedures for farmers and administrations Some changes will apply directly, while others give Member States the flexibility to introduce additional simplification through updates to their CAP Strategic Plans. This allows measures to be tailored to national realities while keeping the overall direction clear: less admin and clearer rules. The European Commission has published a first evaluation report of the EU rules against unfair trading practices in the agri-food chain. The findings show that the Directive is already helping create a fairer and more balanced market. 🔹 Legislation remains relevant for addressing the challenges faced by farmers and small suppliers 🔸 National enforcement authorities have opened more than 4,500 investigations since 2021, and the number of enforcement actions keeps growing. 🔹 Still, many farmers and suppliers report too few cases because they fear retaliation. 🔸 The report also shows that awareness of the rules needs to improve. 🔹National authorities can still make better use of proactive investigations. 🔸 Anonymous tip-offs continue to be an important tool for uncovering unfair practices. 🔹Farmer organisations and other associations can lodge complaints on behalf of farmers and SMEs to help to deal with the fear factor. 🔸 The Commission has already taken steps to improve cross-border enforcement. 🔹Overall, the costs of the rules are proportionate to the benefits for farmers and small suppliers. The Directive remains relevant, coherent with other EU actions, and provides clear added value. The results will feed into the Commission’s planned review of the rules to better protect farmers. These dynamic missions help open doors for European exporters while highlighting the best of Europe. 🌎
