  • A new record has been set: we are witnessing the worst season ever recorded by the EU Forest Fires Information System in terms of burnt area. While the devastation is unprecedented, the increase in burnt areas has begun to slow compared with previous weeks. Copernicus maps have helped raise situational awareness on the exact location and extent of the fires. Civil protection crews and rescEU aircraft have provided support on the frontlines. Solidarity matters more than ever. #CopernicusEmergency #EUCivilProtection #EUSolidarity #Wildfires

  • Maritime coordination saves lives. Backed by the EU, agencies across the Indo-Pacific rely on each other to tackle shared crises at sea using the Indo-Pacific Information Sharing platform (IORIS), a neutral, secure and user-friendly digital environment designed to enhance maritime coordination and communication. Launched in 2018 by the EU-funded CRIMARIO II, IORIS currently has over 2,000 users across 50 countries in East Africa, Asia, the Pacific and Latin America. 🌏 Its impact? ·      More than 130 vessels accompanied in the Red Sea ·      8 joint search & rescue (SAR) operations, saving over 60 lives ·      4 piracy incidents addressed ·      2 pollution incidents managed The EU and its partners are making seas safer, together.

  • The emergence of #mpox in Africa prompted a swift and decisive response from the European Commission.   💉 #TeamEurope was instrumental in the procurement and coordination of #mpox vaccine donations from the #EU to the most affected countries.   Since summer 2024, when the Africa CDC and the World Health Organization declared this emergency, and thanks to collaboration between UNICEF Supply, DG #HERA, and DG #ECHO, more than 288,000 doses have been delivered to six countries: DRC, Rwanda, Uganda, South Africa, Angola, and Sierra Leone 🌍.   These efforts are crucial in stopping the #mpox outbreak and protecting vulnerable populations.   ✈️ 📦 We are also grateful to Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain for their donations and joint commitment to this emergency.   Together, we demonstrate the strength of #EUsolidarity in times of crisis.

  • Heroes on 4 paws 🐾 Search and rescue dogs save lives when disasters strike. With a sense of smell far beyond machines, they locate people trapped under rubble, snow, or underground. It’s not breed, but character that counts — focus, drive, and trust with their handlers. Together, they work, train, and live side by side for nearly a decade, ready to go where others can’t. On #InternationalDogDay, we honour these extraordinary four-legged heroes. 🧡 © European Union, 2025

  • On this day, 34 years ago, Ukraine declared its independence – a freedom that, from day one, Ukrainians have known comes at a price. Since Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, Ukrainians have shown the world that freedom is not inherited, but defended – with fierce courage, unimaginable sacrifice, and an unbreakable spirit. Three and a half years of war and loss – but also of resilience, strength, and hope. From the very beginning, the EU has stood firmly with Ukraine – providing vital aid and support where it’s needed most. Watch how we’re helping keep hope alive 👇 💙💛 Happy Independence Day, Ukraine – we will stand by your side for as long as it takes. #StandWithUkraine #EUHumanitarianAid © European Union, 2025

Director General HERA (Health Emergency Preparedness & Response) at European Commission

Everyone likes a sunny vacation and summer is for most a great time to unwind and relax. I hope you enjoyed a fantastic summer.😎 I deliberately abstained ahead of the holiday season from posting anything about tiger mosquitos or other nasty little fellows but with today’s #WorldMosquitoDay 🦟 I cannot resist any longer. By now it’s common knowledge: with more extreme heat the EU will experience longer & more intense mosquito seasons which can bring us a surge in diseases we so far did not have in the 🇪🇺. At DG #HERA we call it vector borne diseases - like the West Nile virus which is particularly present this summer in Italy. Or Chikungunya which is on the rise in France but is steadily moving up north. The EU counted 27 Chikungunya outbreaks in 2025 as the linked mosquito is now established in 16 EU countries. Idem for dengue fever, occurring locally in the EU- though fortunately not yet endemic. These diseases have been known in Latin American, Asian or African countries since long but are often described as neglected (tropical) diseases - with not enough research going into finding vaccines or treatments . This is hopefully going to change as more researchers are actively looking into vector borne diseases . So will be DG #HERA. With Europe being the fastest warming continent we shall have to tackle many challenges linked to extreme hot weather: Water scarcity, bad harvests, more forest fires and increased health risks. All this will also significantly impact the economic performance and growth of Europe. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has issued guidance for individuals living in affected areas and visitors as well as very interesting scientific insights 👀👉🏻 : https://lnkd.in/eaCFjhwc So no need to panic but better to be aware, prevent being bitten and act to continue enjoying the rest of the summer🌻
