We have an important update about the future of the Western Rail Yards section of the High Line. Today, Wynn Resorts announced that they are withdrawing their plan to build a casino at the Western Rail Yards. Related has revised their current proposed rezoning plan, and the latest proposal appears to address many of our community’s concerns about impacts to the High Line, enhanced public spaces, and more affordable housing units. In response to this news, today we released the following statement by our Executive Director Alan van Capelle: “We are pleased to see that Related has listened to the community and realized that the original plan was not viable. The latest plans appear to address many of our concerns related to the impacts on the High Line, enhanced public space, and a much needed increase in affordable housing. However, the devil is in the details and we look forward to seeing those details and working with Councilmember Bottcher in the coming days. I want to thank our nearly 10,000 supporters, dedicated campaign volunteers and staff from the High Line from across the community who worked tirelessly to make their voices heard.” Our gratitude goes out to every person who has spoken up for this park and our community. 📸: Iwan Baan
