Information and tips for businesses in the EU

About us

The European Commission provides information for citizens and businesses in the EU. The Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship, and SMEs (DG GROW) works to strengthen governance and ensure an open, seamless, and resilient Single Market. Our focus spans from supporting EU economy competitiveness and growth to fostering entrepreneurship and SMEs. We aim to digitise and decarbonise European industries and small businesses, contributing to a greener, more digital, and resilient economy. As part of this, Your Europe Business acts as a single digital gateway, informing SMEs about rights, obligations, opportunities, formalities and procedures concerning doing business in the European Single Market. As an important resource for reaching those goals, the Your Europe website provides accessible, straightforward, and clear information about a wide range of rights and obligations in the EU for businesses.

Welcome to UNIFAB - Union des Fabricants as a signatory to the European Commission #DGGROW #MoU Memorandum of Understanding on the sale of #counterfeit goods on the internet - a voluntary agreement to prevent offers of counterfeit goods from appearing on online #marketplaces. The #MoU brings together major online platforms and rights holders for goods for which counterfeit and pirated versions are sold online (e.g. fast-moving consumer goods, consumer electronics, fashion and luxury goods, sports goods, films, software, games and toys). ⚠️ Why does it matter ? Boosting and protecting #IP assets is indispensable to European Competitiveness. In these turbulent times, #Europe’s independence will hang on its ability to #innovate and commercialise the fruits of this innovation in the Single Market. One of our strengths is the value generated by #IP-intensive industries, from high tech #patents to fashion and luxury goods, sports goods, consumer goods, electronics, toys etc. ⚠️ Companies that hold #IP rights perform better : they generate 23,8% more revenue per employee. Businesses with #IP rights pay employee wages on average 22% higher. ⚠️ Approximately half of large companies hold IP rights, however only around 10% of SMEs register IP rights. SMEs with #IP rights report 44% higher revenue per employee compared to their counterparts without IP rights. This is why we are working on making #IP accessible and productive for European businesses, through initiatives such as the #SMEFund. We are also exploring new avenues on IP-backed financing. #Counterfeiting and #piracy pose a serious threat to #competitiveness, #innovation and long-term #growth. Global trade in counterfeit goods represent 2.3% of global imports and 4.7% of imports into the EU – in one year the value of imports of fakes into the EU is estimated at 99 billion EUR. The clothing industry alone loses almost EUR 12 billion of sales each year. These are not just lost revenues – they are foregone #investments, job losses and weakened competitiveness.   The sale of counterfeits has largely moved to the online environment. There is no single solution that solves all our problems. True progress comes from working together – building stronger cooperation, sharing knowledge, and improving how we act - to stop the flood of counterfeit goods to harm legitimate businesses and consumers. The Digital Services Act #DSA is a major step in the fight against IP infringements. Quick enforcement is needed, to ensure that all signatories to our #MoU can become #trustedflaggers and play their major contribution to the fight against #counterfeit goods ! • Last week, we held our 10th plenary meeting of the Industrial Forum. Over the past 5 years, the Forum has brought together representatives from industry, research, civil society, and all EU countries to build the business case for Europe and unleash the power of our Single Market. Through its collaborative and open exchange, the Forum has shown that when Europe’s industry, policymakers, and citizens work together, we can turn ambition into action – and shape a stronger industrial future for Europe, together. We were able to reflect on the Forum’s journey so far, as well as the challenges and future priorities. We had great discussions on the European Competitiveness Fund, the future of EU Public Procurement, and AI and Robotics: key enablers of a more competitive, sustainable, and resilient European industry. A big thanks to all members for their engagement, expertise, and commitment. We will soon launch Industrial Forum 2.0 on the strong foundation you have helped create.
