'Cute and funny' feel good film with all star cast of legends on BBC tonight
The 2018 film, Book Club, is due to air on BBC Two tonight (Fri) and features an all-star cast including Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen
Fans of the late legendary actor, Diane Keaton will be pleased to know they can catch one of her feel good romantic comedies tonight on BBC Two.
The Hollywood stalwart appears with an all-star cast of legends in 2018’s Book Club, which centres on four friends who have attended a monthly book club for 40 years that suddenly gets very interesting after they read erotic novel, Fifty Shades of Grey.
Keaton stars alongside Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen in the ‘cute and funny’ film, which also sees the author of the Fifty Shades franchise, E.L. James, make a cameo appearance.
Rotten Tomato reviewers described the film as having a ‘killer cast’ that was ‘so funny’ and the ‘best chick flick’.
One reviewer wrote: “So great to see these actors come together. A charming, funny movie with a lot that I could relate to.”
Other review said: “Funny movie. This was a stellar cast. I loved seeing them interact together. The protagonists are all Hollywood royalty, that’s what makes this movie special.”
Diane Keaton’s huge body of work has been plunged back into the spotlight after it was announced she had passed away on October 11.
She was a frequent collaborator with Woody Allen and appeared in eight of his films - the most notable being Annie Hall in 1977 for which she won an Academy Award for Best Actress.
She also starred in Frances Ford Coppola’s Godfather series and a number of timeless comedy dramas including Father of the Bride and its sequel, The First Wives Club and The Family Stone.
She appeared in Book Club’s sequel, Book Club: The Next Chapter, which was released in 2023.
Keaton was remembered fondly by her Book Club co-stars who all shared statements about her passing.
Jane Fonda wrote: “It’s hard to believe…or accept…that Diane has passed. She was always a spark of life and light, constantly giggling at her own foibles, being limitlessly creative… Unique is what she was. And though she didn’t know it or wouldn’t admit it, man she was a fine actress!”
Candice Bergen described Keaton as a ‘true artist’ and said she was ‘tremendously gifted and uniquely talented’.
She added: “I will miss her terribly.”
Mary Steenburgen said: “Diane was magic. There was no one, nor will there ever be, anyone like her.”
