Using DDoS protection services
DoS stands for Denial of Service, and DDoS stands for Distributed Denial of Service. Each cloud provider has its implementation of a managed DDoS protection service. Because cloud providers have a large bandwidth (compared to most customers or even internet service providers), they can offer (as a paid service) mechanisms to protect customers’ environments from DDoS attacks, by spreading the traffic across its global infrastructure and its multiple data centers. Due to the large network capacity, CSPs can filter much larger amounts of data compared to on-premises infrastructure. CSPs often provide automated scaling tools that can increase the bandwidth and resource allocation temporarily, allowing services to remain operational during an attack. CSPs have dedicated teams and automated systems to monitor unusual traffic patterns. Because of their vast networks, they can detect DDoS attacks quickly, as they begin.
