Choosing a cloud provider
Before choosing a cloud provider, we need to ask ourselves the following question: What are we trying to achieve by migrating to the cloud or from using the cloud?
There are a few steps that we need to take before we begin working with a cloud provider:
- Make a choice based on the business goals set forth by the business.
- Get familiar with a potential cloud provider and try to understand its maturity level.
- Sign a contract with a cloud provider that will protect us as customers. Although in the case of infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS)/platform-as-a-service (PaaS) providers, beginning to work with a CSP requires payment methods (unless your organization is able to sign an enterprise agreement and make changes to the formal contract), it is crucial to sign a contract with software-as-a-service (SaaS) providers and make sure the contract contains sections about data protection and the obligations of the CSP.
