Stratified Sampling & ANOVA Guide

This document discusses the sampling design, research instrument, data analysis plan, and statistical software for a study on alcoholism. It will use stratified random sampling to select participants from light, moderate, and heavy alcoholism strata. The SMAST questionnaire will assess alcohol abuse or dependence. Data will be analyzed using one-way ANOVA to test if the means of stoma and macro measures differ significantly across the three alcoholism levels. SPSS software will be used to compute statistical analyses without manual calculations.

Sampling Design

Stratified Random Sampling

Why? It provides unbiased data with an equal chance per strata.
Homogenous(all are alcoholics) with different strata(Light, Mod, Heavy)
FORMULA TO BE USED:
2

z x SD
n= z margin of error
n= Population
z= 1.96
SD= 0.25 (without squared)
Margin of Error = 0.1
Answer: 96

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
SMAST.
of

Used to determine if the person is Alcoholic or NOT, a score

***SMAST is for alcohol abuse or alcohol dependence **NO CHRONIC

WAS MENTIONED.
***we only say that it can be used as CHRONIC based on the Study of
CHARLES et.al., but SMAST as is, it is for alco abuse/dependence
DATA ANALYSIS

ONE WAY ANOVA. A One-Way ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) is a statistical

technique by which we can test if three or more means are equal. It tests if
the value of a single variable differs significantly among three or more levels
of a factor.
We can say we have a framework for one-way ANOVA when we have a single
factor with three or more levels and multiple observations at each level .

WHY? Kasi isa lang yung kinokompare natin, yung category over sto and
macro
Dependent variable- Stoma and Macro
SINGLE FACTOR: Degree of alcoholism (light, mod, heavy) tho parang madami, ndi
sya that 3 ay under same differentiation which is alcoholics pa din.
Categorical values (light, moderate, heavy) -the frequency table, mean and standard deviation .
inferential statistic type of research. -It allow us to use these samples to make
generalizations about the populations from which the samples were drawn. It involves the
testing of statistical hypothesis. For short, si Descriptive correlational ay under inferential. Si DC
inaallow nya tayo to make judgement and conclusion kung may relationship nga ba talaga mga
variables natin.
