Connect the power cable
1, Make sure that the Power switch (located on the left side of the panel) is in
the Off position (not pressed).
2. Connect the included power cable to the AC inlet (located on the bottom
of the unit), and then connect the other end to an electrical outlet.
* Use only the includes power cable.
* Ifyou wi nt be using the instrument for an extended period of tme, disconnect the power cable

Set up the music stand
Raise the music stand, and bend down the two metal supports as shown
below.
Open the cover
For the KR-4700, use both hands to grasp the ridge at the lower edge of
the cover; raise the cover vertically and slide it back.
For the KR-5000, use both hands to grasp the cover handles, raise the
cover vertically and slide it back.

* Be careful not to pinch your fingers when opening or closing the cover. When closing the cover,

Attaching the Manual Drum template
The Manual Drum template indicates which drum sound will be played by each key when playing

* When you fist use the KA-4700/5000 or afer it has been unused for a month or longer, the fol-

John Maul
Joho Maul isa musician, composer and arranger having graduated from the Royal Academy of Music
in Londen, John’s work encompasses studio recordings and live performances, including work with
top cabaret artists in the U.K. His weting credits include commercial music foe radio and television,
as well as scoring jass and classicsl works. Asa product specialist for Roland U.K., John's talents are
Well utilized in the preparation of support material for educational and instructional use.
Mark Van Der Sluis
‘Mark did not go through formal musical training, buts @ naturally gifted musician who by age 12
was already performing and composing asa professional keyboard player. He has appeared in many
recordings, television broadcasts and live performances, and in 1989 signed a contract with Roland
New Zealand as a product specialist. In 1992 he became a product specialist fr Roland Japan, con-
ducting product clinics and demonstrations worldwide.
Marvin Sanders,
‘Marvin Sanders s a somewhat wacky Los Angeles composer whose work can be heard on projects
for Toyota, Acura, Max Factor, Alpine, Thomas Brothers, Theater for Young Auiences, and Michael
Jackson. He has also worked extensively with Roland, conducting clinics and writing music for
humerous produc: videos and demos including ROM-plays inthe SC-155 and JV-880.
Luigi Bruti
{igh Brut isthe senior musical advisor in Roland Europe; he joined the company in 1979, He won
the world championships of accordion in 1976 and worked for three veers (197880) for an alin
record company inthe creation of sound tracks, both as a composer andi performer. He is @ keyboard
and synthesizer player, and has his own recording studio where he creates sound tracks for radio and
TV spots and for movies. As the chief of Roland Europe's musical staf, he designed the musical sec

There are many different tyoes of music in the world, and each has cettain characteristics
For example, a bossanova tune has certain things about it that make us recognize it as @ bossanova,
justasa thumba has certain characteristics that mark it as & hhumba. Some ofthese elements are the
fhythm, the tempo, the type of instruments usec, and the arrangement,
In the KR-A700/5000, "Music Style" refers to ths type of data that has been analyzed for each genre of
‘music. Each Music Style coniains accompaniment patterns for Original, Variation, intro, Ending and
Fillin In adeltion, there are two types of each ofthese patterns; Basic and Advanced. These accom:
paniment patterns are nat simply played back. Rather, the arrangement changes according tothe
Chords you play. for musically sophisticated development asthe song progresses,
Here's how to utilize the Style Peremance capabilites.
1. For now, press Music Style button 1 to select the "A-1 Big Band” Music
Style (a large jazz orchestra).
The display wil indicate the selected Music Style name and temp.

Normally you can select ftom 16 Music Styles. By switching tothe Music Styles Expansion mode
however, you can select Irom 64 Music Styles. A Music Style card {TN-SC2 series: sold separately)
can add & more Music Sivles.
Note:
The Original accompaniment of Music Style "B-1 Pop* ("84 Popa" in Music
Style Extension mode) does not contain percussion sounds.
@ Select a Music Style (Music Style Standard mode)
‘The 16 Music Styles are oranized by Group (AB) andé Number (}~—B}, an are selected by the Music
Style butions. The Music Styles selected by each buton are printed on the Iront panel

The arrangement of a Music Style canbe changed by pressing the Advanced button and the Variation
button Select these 35 appropriate for the sona you are playing. For example, you might use Original

Performance functions
Quick preparation for Style performance (One Touch Program button)
When you wish to play a Style performance. its usually necessary to press various buttons to make
the appropriate panel settings. However, by using the One Touch Progam bution, ptepaations for a
Siyle perlormance can be made instantly
When the Arranger is not in use (e.g., when the power has just been turned
on), press the One Touch Program button.

Quick preparation for Piano performance (Piano button)
By pressing the Piano button you can instantly prepare fora piano performance.
Press the Piano button.
Regardless of what panel settings have been made, pressing the Piano button will instantly assign
piano Tone 1 tothe entire keyboard. Of Course, after pressing the Piano button you can then select
a different Tone i you wish. (The leit pedal will be the Sot pedal, and the center pedal will be the
Sostenuto pedal

Use the Tempo buttons to make adjustments.

When you change the tempo, the diselay will show the tempo value 20-250. The Beat indicator
also lets you check the tempo and the beat, The indicator will blink re forthe fist beat ang green for
the second and later beats,
+ By simultaneously pressing both the Tempo "+" and ‘buttons, you can reset the tempo to the
standard tempo for the selected Music Stic.
Simplified fingering for chords (the Chord Intelligence button)
When playing a Style periormance, the left hand plays the chords. 8y using the Choral Intelligence
tunetion, six main types of chord can be produced with simpliie fingering.
+ The Chord ineligence function can be used when the keyboard mods is set to either Split
Arranger or Split
Press the Chord Intelligence button to make the indicator light.

neously specity bath Upper 1 and Upper 2, Upper 2 will not record your keyboard playing. (If the
