Team 2024,
What a whirlwind of a week! From various schedules to include a writing test and a trip, as well as potential tornadoes
and a shortened school day, our team came together and made it happen for kids! Thank you all for going all in and
modeling flexibility so our Pride did not skip a beat. As we quickly approach the end of Quarter 3 with only 15
school days left in the quarter and 19 days until Spring Break, it is essential that we
keep doing whatever it takes to get our kids that much closer to 5th grade readiness. I'm excited for this week and to
see how we all come together to make it a great week for kids!
Before you jump in, I have a few shout outs:
Bledsoe: Planning and executing a great museum trip for our kids! It was one of the best that I have attended
and it was due to your planning and execution.
Steffen: Facilitating the grade level meeting on Friday, taking a ton of in the moment feedback, and always
jumping in to lead the Pride on days when I'm out. Your growth as a leader this year has been phenomenal, and
I can't wait to see what you continue to do for kids.
Tucker-Hunt: Giving a strong and thorough frontload on the museum trip for what students needed to do
for the bus ride back and their lunches. I didn't need to jump in and add anything because you had thoroughly
planned each detail to set kids up for success.
Graves: Going all in with supporting Nicholas, and along with Bledsoe, getting him to earn off of bench on
Friday!
Cosentino: Being tremendously flexible despite a tornado warning disrupting your writing test :) Additionally,
any time our Pride needs something checked or collected, you execute flawlessly and do a great job tracking the
papers that we have received for silent lunch, paychecks, and following up.
Cheek: Constantly seeking clarification to ensure that you have all of the knowledge that you need to execute
each moment of the day for our kids. Additionally, your hunger to improve is so evident during our standing
meetings by the way you accept in the moment feedback, ask questions, and seek to practice multiple times
until you achieve mastery.
There is a ton of information in the email. Please read through it carefully and find a way to internalize the
information.
Weekly Goal: Ensure 100% students follow through with a reset or do it again moment in class.
Ways to make this happen:
When something does not meet the vision, pause the class and square up/stand still.
Using economy of language, name exactly what needs to improve, why it is important, and specifically what
you expect to see when you do it again.
Use calm, yet authoritative tone.

While speaking, look at students slightly longer/more intensely that you saw incorrectly execute direction the
first time for least invasive accountability.
Immediately and positively praise specific students/actions you see that improve the second time so
momentum continues and class feels success in area they improved.
If the behavior is not fixed the second time around, escalate your tone and issue a consequence for specific
students if necessary.

STEP Testing/Guided Reading:
It is essential that we are extremely urgent with STEP testing this week because our last day to enter data
is this Wednesday, 3/1.
Please be sure that you are completely teasing individual students and placing completed folders in the
resource room (reference previous team emails for exactly where they should go) so Holt can enter
and update the data.
A timeline of events is below:
Monday-Wednesday this week: Complete STEP assessment during GR/EM block
All: On Wednesday when all testing is completed, Holt will print the STEP growth after GR and
place the document in each of your mailboxes. Like the last celebration, please make a growth
certificate for all of the students in your group that made growth and bring to the celebration on
Thursday. Please use the same template from the last celebration.
Thursday: STEP growth celebration during GR/EM block
Instead of our regular GR/EM block, we will hold our next STEP celebration during this time.

3/21/16, 6:44 AM
Holt and Johnson will meet during lunch to create new GR groups and get that information to
you all no later than Friday, 3/4.
Next Monday, 3/7: Begin new GR groups
Steffen: In team meeting, we will decide who will make the attachment, however, as a heads up,
new groups will need to be included as an attachment on next Monday's MW.
All: LPs and supplemental mateirals for your new GR group will need to be ready to go by
Monday, 3/7. Please be sure to submit your GR lesson plans to Holt and myself per Carice's email
(we will only give feedback if it is necessary). Additionally, we will not be with your during your
GR planning, so if you have questions, please reach out.
Submit to Johnson: Steffen, Cheek, and Jess
Submit to Holt: Graves, Tucker-Hunt, and Cosentino
Next Wednesday, 3/9 and Thursday, 3/10: Sam (our STEP consultant) will visit the school to
observe GR and analyze data
Guided Reading Planning Periods:
Since we are still STEP testing for this week, we will not have GR planning since the groups will likely change
based on growth. As a result, everyone should be a part of their regular dismissal roles.
GR planning periods will resume regularly next Monday.
Lunch:
Round Table Kids:
Each teacher should have the name of 1 student each day to earn the round table based on strong
collegiate position in your class or strong work habits.
Steffen and Tucker-Hunt: Please be sure these names are ready to go at lunch and these kids earn
sitting at the round tables as soon as possible.
Trash Minutes:
Steffen and Tucker-Hunt: Please either own or delegate for someone to be in charge of having a
kid pick up trash after our lunch and counting to see if there are trash minutes. We had quite a few
pieces of trash last week and we need to get this system up and running consistently.
Revamping/Updating Student Work:
We need to revamp and update displays of student work throughout the school. Work time will be provided on
Friday for teachers to begin working on this. To maximize the work time for this, teachers should bring graded
work with you on Friday.
The declined for all teachers to have new student work posted is by 3/14 at go-time.
Updated work needs to meet the following criteria:
Recent: From the last 3 weeks
Substantial: Should fill an entire bulletin board
Visually Appealing: Should be neat and aesthetically pleasing
Celebrates Something Specific: It should be clear from work what is being celebrated
UTZ Google Doc:
Please be sure add your shout outs to the UTZ google doc using the link below...

Owning Emerging Students:
Please be sure you are utilizing the next steps that were discussed in our team meeting on Friday and going

all in with setting up your students for success.
Bench Ownership:
We currently have 14 students on bench and have had about this many students on bench for the last few
weeks. Culturally for the Pride, this does not set students up for success, so we need to be sure to go all in
with doing everything we can to get most students off by the end of this week. We also want to ensure that we
go all in and try to prevent more students from earning on bench by seeing the field, addressing behaviors
before they get larger, positively reinforcing students, etc. The misconception is that we don't bench students
if their behavior warrants it, but we want to set kids up to decrease the likelihood of this happening.
Johnson: Ryan J., Imya B., Brandon W.
Steffen: Jasmine W. and Shermari P., ZyQuan A.
Tucker-Hunt: Christian R., Thurman H., Ronald R.
Bledsoe: Juventino C. and Jared J.
Graves: Elijah J.
Cheek: Tameah B.
Cosentino: Gerard H.
Quarter 3 Make Up Work:
There are only 15 days left in Quarter 3 to have students make up any missing assignments.
Please remember that all long-term assignments, quizzes, and tests need to be made up by students.
Students can either complete assignments during the do now (if they are relatively quick) or if they warrant
more time, they would need to stay after school
Additionally, if you have students stay after school, please be sure to let the office know/update the tutoring
Google Doc so the office is informed and support tutoring dismissal.
Owning Late Pick-Ups:
2023 will start taking over for late pick-up tomorrow since March is their month.
Johnson Availability:
Monday: I will be covering Cheek's 3rd and 4th class tomorrow, 3/29 and not easily accessible.
Tuesday: I will be out all day on Tuesday, 3/1 for NELA.
Wednesday: I will be at school, but unavailable on Wednesday, 3/2 from 9:00-1:00 because I will be with an
elementary candidate.
Thursday: I will be at school, but have two different elementary trainings on Thursday from 9:30-11:00am
and 2:00-3:30pm. Since this is the only time that works for both of our schedules, Holt and I will also met
during lunch from 11:50-12:40 to make new GR groups.
Friday: I have a meeting with Eric and Carice off campus from 7:30-10:30am. I will return to school after this
time and have an IC meeting from 11:00-12:00pm.
Action Items:
All:
Create STEP growth certificates by Thursday, 3/3 by STEP Growth Celebration
Grade work to update bulletin boards during Friday's Work Time
Have new GR LPs created by next Monday, 3/7 and submit to either Holt or Johnson on an ongoing
basis
Check the attached image from the team meeting notes for any additional action steps
Graves: Please be sure the TS room gets broken down before the end of the day on Monday and set back up
on Thursday before you leave

Hey--I don't know if it might make more sense for whomever teaches the Friday Thinking Skills class to use the
classroom of the person that's out of the rotation.
The Thinking Skills CWs are mail merged with individual kid's names on them for Grade Cam and the teacher would
need to utilize mailboxes on these days.
Thoughts?

Don't worry about setting your room back up on Thursday, just leave it broken down. The teacher that will teach TS
will just use the classroom of the teacher on the Q2 day since that room will have mailboxes.
