Basic Parts of a Newspaper 1. Editorial an article expressing the stand/opinion of the editors and publishers on a current issue. 2.

News Stories / Current News give an account of events that have recently happened. - the story aims to keep the readers up to date on the important political, economic, cultural, and other events. 3. Feature Story - a type of news story that develops the writing from the angle of human interest. 4. Columns - these parts express the columnists views or stand on any issue of the day 5. Business News - it reports on the status of different businesses and industries 6. Sports News This part gives us news on the result of national and international games and their advance reports on schedules. This also includes news on sports celebrities.. 7. Readers Opinion this part publishes the readers opinion, reactions, comments, and the like. Readers send their messages to the newspaper publisher. Most of those publishers allot at least half on a page for the letters coming from the readers. Activity Directions: Here is a column clipped from the Philippine Star (May 8, 2005). Read the column carefully and answer the following questions. 1. What is the subject of the column? 2. What answers to the boys question did not satisfy him? 3. Whom did he asked finally? 4. In the article, what so special about a woman particularly a mother, according to God? 5. Where does the beauty of a woman lie? 6. What is the aim of the columnist? 7. After reading the column, will you love your mother more? Explain how the column affects your view about loving ones mother.
