1. Explain your most important accomplishment and explain why you think it as such. (Less than
400 words)
Every single stage of my life has its own relevant accomplishments story. Since my childhood, I have always
a strong insistence of being an efficient variable in all stages that I have passed through to leave a clear
fingerprint on both my family and society.
My primary, secondary, high school, and undergraduate education were important educational stations in
which my future was brightly shaped and many academic, social, political, and personal accomplishments
were achieved.
These stations were considered as strong concrete bases above them I built up the stairs to Central Bank of
Yemen (CBY) which is one of the most important government institutions that has substantial role on the
economic development growth of my society. I was employed by CBY in 2007 through a recruiting panel
and was assigned to work in one of CBYs important sectors, the Foreign Banking Operations Sector and I
consider this to be my most important accomplishment for many reasons. Obtaining a job in this sector
especially in the General Investment Department where I work now is like a dream for all candidates. CBY
careers involve intensive requirements and fierce completion in a country that suffers high unemployment
rates and only highly qualified admitted candidates are carefully selected to work in the Investment
Department because of its significant role in the monetary policy formulation. Despite the lumpy track to
this, my strong educational background and superior skills have made the road toward my professional
career less difficult. In addition, this satisfied my so long-waiting dream of working in a place in which I
could invest my accumulated academic knowledge and skills to serve my society in a better way and reduce
the financial burden on my low income family.
Moreover, I feel so happy when realizing my dreams come true and are being translated into real actions.
During my career period, I have participated effectively in improving the framework and mechanisms of
managing the foreign reserves and exchange rates in the foreign sector which guide the high management in
taking their relevant monetary policy decisions.
To say, I was nominated by the high management to attend an important foreign workshop in France about
Strategic Assets Allocation in order to improve investment strategies in my department. This workshop has
exposed me to learn new investment techniques, strategies, and statistical tools & models in the investment
field. Returning to my work in CBY, I have shared what I learned with my colleagues and we together
formed a team responsible for preparing a framework for a new investment policy which eventually was
highly admired and approved by CBY Board of Directors and until now has shown a significant influence on
maximizing investment portfolios profits within certain acceptable risks and providing a sufficient liquidity

management of CBY foreign reserves.

2. Describe your research interest with regard to your career vision. (Less than 400 words)
My early experience in CBY was an opportunity to obtain in-hand experience of CBY monetary
functions and how they are used to achieve monetary and fiscal stability which is associated with the
economic development growth of the country. Starting my professional career as an accountant in the
Investment Department, I have accumulated a practically diversified knowledge on how CBY manages
substantial foreign currency financial assets to meet foreign currency needs and manage exchange rate
fluctuations in order to build credible economic system.
Later, I was nominated by the high management as the Head of Investment portfolios and Follow-up
Division which is responsible of foreign reserves management. My duties in this division include the
conduction of reports and work papers that ensure the availability of adequate foreign exchange reserves for
meeting liquidity requirements and intervening in local market to protect the exchange rates stability and
also ensure appropriate portfolio management policies concerning the currency composition, choice of
investment instruments, and acceptable duration of the reserves portfolio. In addition, I occasionally
participate with a team selected carefully by the high management from other related departments such as
the Research, General Debt, and Government Budget Departments to conduct consolidated reports and
feasibility studies that guide the high management to take the appropriate economic policies and actions. To
say, the output of one work guided CBY in taking conservative actions of foreign reserves management
which significantly enhanced the monetary stability during the severe political turmoil that started in
2011`and get worsened in 2015, cutting off the government main resources of budget (Oil and Gas
revenues). Although my career experience allowed me to build up good researching, forecasting, and
analytical capacities, obtaining MPP will be highly necessary to learn important issues of undertaking
economic policy formulation capacity and implementation based on a firm understanding of theory and
analytical implications of fiscal, monetary and other public policies. Living in one of the most rapidly
growing economies in the world (Korea), I would obtain first-hand experience of public policies role in this
country and know how it through history contributed to its economic development miracle story. Returning
back to my country with precious knowledge of public policy issues, I will try to assist CBY to articulate
appropriate objectives and principles for reserve management and build adequate institutional and
operational foundations for good reserve management practices.
I will devote time and efforts in doing researches on economic, monetary, and fiscal spheres to
strengthen CBY functions as the monetary policy performer and maximize its contribution to the
society development. Moreover, Im planning to work as a public policy guide and expert for
international development organizations and agencies to assist them effectively achieve their social

and economic development goals in my society.

3. Describe your potential contributions to the class if you were to receive admission to the KDI
School. (Less than 400 words)
As a person coming from a poor country, my mind is full of questions. Not only questions related to
my career experience in Central Bank of Yemen (CBY) but also to the Yemeni economy in general I
have accumulated for so long. As KDI School has developing countries-oriented programs and
admit students from around the world who work in related development institutions, this will create
a global environment in which every student will bring his own institution experience and country
challenges into open discussions. Being part of this global education environment created by KDI, I
will share my own professional experience and knowledge with my classmates and professors. I
have attracted the admiration of the high management of CBY to have good skills and capabilities
in portfolio and foreign reserves management. These abilities were developed through my position
as the head of Investment Portfolios and Follow-up Division and through the many local, overseas
workshops and training programs that I joined during my eight years experience. Thus, I will have
no hesitation to share these skills with my classmates who work in the same field or those interested
in learning foreign reserves management issues. In addition, Im planning to share my country
experience and policies carried out by CBY especially during the war time with KDI highly
qualified professors and with all classmates to investigate and evaluate the positive & negative
consequences and reactions to taken policies and come up with concrete suggestions based on
intensive group discussions. For instance, CBY has recently adopted the parallel exchange rate
system to stop the rapid deterioration of Yemeni Rial currency vis-a-vis other major foreign
currencies and prevent the many exchange rates prevailing in the economy. So, I highly believe that
bringing such these real policy issues will make a potential contribution to class related subjects.
Moreover, I could contribute effectively in social, cultural and other activities organized by KDI
School. I have built up good leadership and communication skills through my participation in many
activities along the way of my education journey. Thus, I will volunteer to successfully assist KDI
School achieve its goals and work hard to introduce initiatives that make these activities more
useful. For instance, I will try to build strong relationship among all KDI students in general and
between Korean students and international students to maximize their educational attainment and
let them stay closely connected even after graduation.
