Why did Alfredo fell in-love with Julia Salas?

Alfredo has been engaged with Esperanza for more or less four years. The length of time could have
possibly brought him too much familiarity of Esperanza to the point of monotony. Then here comes a young
Julia Salas, a new character in his life.

At first, her lovely voice caught his attention. He enjoyed their conversations, and felt that Julia also liked
his company. During this period, certain feelings might have developed in Alfredo. He has sensed
something new and fresh with Julia Salas. He later on describes it as the spirit of youth and hearts desire.

It seems that Alfredo is drawn by the mystery of Julia Salas. He felt this yearning to know her more.As days
went by, he seemed to have a different knowing of Julia Salas. For him, even though her face was not
notably pretty, she had a tantalizing charm, an inner quality, an achievement of the spirit. It lured him even
more.

It seemed that Alfredo fell in-love with Julia Salas, somehow feeling a break from all the monotony. He was
so used to Esperanza, and all the routine. Furthermore, he was practically living a determined future,
because the society seems to have long accepted Alfredo and Esperanzas union. Julia was the one that
broke that monotony. She brought excitement and mystery. She was something new, a break from all the
set expectations.
