Ride Height General Procedures PDF

This document provides instructions for measuring and adjusting the front suspension ride height of a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. It describes taking measurements from the lower arm bushing bolt to the lift and from the wheel spindle to the lift, then calculating the ride height by subtracting the first measurement from the second. It notes that the torsion bar adjusting bolt should be replaced if ever removed and that tightening or loosening this bolt increases or decreases the ride height.

Ride Height

1. Drive the vehicle onto a drive-on lift.

2. Jounce the vehicle's front and rear suspension to normalize the vehicle static ride height.

3. Measure the distance between the center line of the front suspension lower arm bushing bolt and the lift. Record the measurement.

4. Measure the distance between the front wheel spindle (lowest point) and the lift. Record the measurement.

Take the measurement from the midpoint of the surface shown.

5. Determine ride height.

Subtract measurement 1 from measurement 2. This is the ride height.

6. NOTE: The torsion bar adjusting bolt is coated with adhesive that wears off after disassembly. If the torsion bar system is ever disassembled or the torsion bar adjusting bolt
is ever removed, use a new torsion bar adjusting bolt when re-assembling.
Adjust the torsion bars (height) as necessary by tightening or loosening the torsion bar adjusting bolt.

Tighten the torsion bar adjusting bolt to increase the torque or raise the height.

Loosen the torsion bar adjusting bolt to decrease the torque or lower the height.
