Spline Design Using KISSSoft

The document provides step-by-step instructions for using KISSSoft software to design a spline by selecting options for the spline type, dimensions, materials, and torque specifications, running simulations, and viewing and saving the 3D models of the shaft, hub, and assembly. Key steps include choosing standard or custom spline parameters, inputting the outer diameter, facewidth, quality, materials, nominal torque, and viewing and saving the generated 3D geometry files.

Spline Design

Using
KISSSoft

Allan John S. Limson

2

Procedure:
1: Select Spline (Geometry and Strength) from Modules
2: Select from Standard top-down menu:
2.1 Own input if manual encoding
2.2 Choose “xxxxx”(complete) if standard for full data
3

Procedure:
3: Select “ISO 4156:2005, 30, (flat root – complete)”
4: Select Outside Diameter =24 and module=1.5

Note: For Outside Diameter =20; the nearest is

Select OD= 19.5 and module=1.5

We can adjust the module to 1.0 or 2.0 to have both

same module.

6

Procedure:
5: Input the Facewidth (thickness)
6: Adjust the quality to 6.
7: Input Materials : 42 CrMo4 = AISI 4140
9
8
Procedure: Formula:
8: Input the Nominal Torque
For this project = 1096 Nm. 𝑷 = 𝟏𝟐𝟎𝝅𝑻𝑵
9: Run the simulation
P = power
T = torque
N = RPM

Sample Computation:

P = power = 2hp/wheel = 1491.4 W

N = RPM = 13

T = torque = ? = 1096 N.m.
