Singing Game

Music Lesson Plan

Title: Charlie Over the Ocean Grade Level: 2nd-3rd

Source: Dr. McConkey

Materials needed:
None

Procedure:

A.S: Has anyone been to the ocean before? What kinds of animals do you
see in the ocean?
1. Since this song is a repeat after me song, it is easier for the class to pick
up.
Lyrics:
Charlie over the ocean
(Charlie over the ocean)
Charlie over the sea
(Charlie over the sea)
Charlie caught a *insert ocean animal*
Didn’t catch me
2. Once the class knows the song, you can teach them the game.
3. Get your class in one big circle. One person will stand on the outside of
the circle.
4. When the song is being sung, “Charlie” is replace by the name of the
student walking around the circle. That student sings the song solo, and
the students sitting around the circle echo. The solo student also gets to
pick which ocean animal they caught.
5. The student walks around the circle for the entire song, and taps a
student’s head by the end of the last line.
6. The student who was tapped then has to chase the other student around the
circle. If the student being chased makes it back to the opening in the
circle before getting tagged, they are safe. If they get tagged, they have to
sit in the middle of the circle.
7. The student who chased the other student now gets to walk around the
circle while the class sings, and taps another student.

Closure: What are some of the ocean animals that we sang about?
