Course content

  Regulatory Applicability and International Conventions


o  IMO and IMDG background and jurisdiction
o  International agreements and conventions such as SOLAS and MARPOL
o  IMDG Code key definitions, structure, application and terminology
  Classification and Identification
o  IMDG Code class hazard definitions and basic terms
o  Use of the IMDG Code Dangerous Goods List, including marine pollutants /
Special Provisions, and selection of the correct shipping name
o  Limited and excepted quantity provisions
  Packaging
o  Use of IMDG Code packing instructions
o  General and specific packaging requirements and limitations for all types of
packaging, including intermediate bulk containers, large packaging, portable
tanks
o  selection of correct package for the purpose of transport by sea
  Marking, Labeling and Placards
o  Consignment procedures, including general provisions
o  Marking and labeling of packages, including IBCs
o  Placarding requirements of cargo transport units and how to complete the
multimodal Dangerous Goods form accurately
  Vessels, CTUs consignments (segregation and stowage)
o  Understanding the stowage and segregation requirements for all types of
dangerous goods shipments, including: cargo transport units, dangerous goods
incidents, transport of CTUs on board ships, packing of CTUs, transport of
dangerous goods in barges, temperature control provisions, transport of wastes
and the competent authorities’ approvals and exemptions
